Post Surgery

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

I just reread my post from immediately after LASIK surgery and had to laugh.  With all the typos - I was not doing a great job of advertising for the procedure;-) As soon as I can take a shower again - I will be back in the gym with more updates.

For all the rest of you - Keep it up.  It has been amazing how visible the progress has been and I am anxious to get back on track myself!

Change Up

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Ok - it turns out that I was a good candidate for Lasik, and I have dermitology visit and cavity fill/crown going on this week. so i am really focusing on keeping diet-motivated and will work in some maintnence sessions at the gym.  The good news is I am able to seem enough to write this LOL.  I am headed for post-surgery checkup today.

I really miss the gym now that I have had a chance to get into a groove and see real progress.  Frustrations and "bitching" aside - it is a real lifesaver in handling stress at work as well as just plain felling good.  So all you guys (and gals) out there hitting the gym and hating it - I am a little jealous right now.

More good news - I am not out too long - just a few days.  So Keep it up!!!!

Back + Bi’s Week 1 - Phase 2

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

OK - I may have to go see a DR or at least dedicate a portion of my limited workout time to my darn shoulder.  I guess the progress on my lateral delt raises was misleading because I could not successfully stabilize my upper arm for proper form on dumbell bicep curls.  Adjust! Adjust!  So I went back to hammer machine bicep curls and did fine.  I also went with close grip bar curls (standing) for brachialis work and double bicep cables for emphasis on contactions.  Before all of this - I had a solid moderate back routine.  i added assisted wide grip pull ups in front for close grip cable rows and meduin grip cable pull downs.

In fact, I just realized that trainng back to back days and hitting wide grips probably had a pretty solid hit on the rotator so I am probably not quite as bad off as I thought but still frustrated.  Good news is that I am feeling more stimulation with these new exercises - just need to dial in the weight a bit.  Keep it up!

Chest + Tri’s - Phase 2 Week 1

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Following the "Priority Principle"  - I tried leading with incline dumbells.  Not the best start.  Felt some muscle connection but really had problems with what I thought was reasonable weight and my darn shoulder was showing strain (not Pain - but still).  I moved on to hammer machine and cable exercises for chest and the strain backed off so I will take that as progress.  Decided to try a more traditional Chest + Tri matchup.  triceps were able to get more weight and contractions but were so blasted by the hammer machine that cable extensions were causing them to almost cramp.  Anyway - got good pump going and I am getting a program defined for the next 6 weeks so it was a good workout.

Back In the Game

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

OK - I am not sure how some of you family guys do it on vacation.  I had 10 days, took my protein with me and got off to a good start.  5 days into it - I started to cave.  We were in the car all day, visiting parks, etc and it was just too much trouble!  So I -fell off the wagon - for the rest of the trip.  Fortunately - the limited progress I had started to make does not appear to have been totally scrwed up by this.  I am sure thet means that I simply did not get as much growth benefit from my "rest" as I could have.  Either way - I am back in the game starting my next phase as planned and back on diet so I am looking forward to the next 6 weeks.

I am expecting some more strength gains but mainly I expect to start seeing more fat loss in this phase.

On a side note - Yellowstone was a fabulous trip this time of year and I did discover that they sold "Naked Protein" drink in the stores.

WEEK 6 DONE - BREAK TIME

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Naturally - I am having strong sessions in the gym, seeing physical changes starting to happen, and it is time to go on vacation!   My body definitely has a sense of humor!  Great way to end this phase.  Performance is up on all body parts.  My left shoulder can almost handle normal weights again (still not quite up to par on working the top deltoids but not too bad if I stay away from upright rows or side lateral raises).

Weight dropped to 269.5 but I am thinking that is all waterweight since I have been weighing in at 274 (including 2 days ago).   When I get back - I will be hitting cardio and changing my routines to emphasize cables and freeweights (well and some hammer machines - but no more Life machines).  I like ending on this note because I am really eager and I am going to use this to keep me on my diet during the off week.

Keep it up!!!

Pec + Biceps Week 6

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Alright!  Finishing 6 week ramp up strong.  One more workout to go before my week break (well I will be hiking a lot but I will NOT be in a gym).  Anyway - chest started a bit off but I kept focusing on feeling the muscle working.  I have had more luck with this on biceps over the last few weeks but one of the new cable crossovers did it.  I usually have a more erect posture and squeeze the lower pecs but this time I bent forward and really worked at squeezing the upper pecs.  Not as much mass there but I could really feel it.  I also have really started to notice how much I try to cheat with my delts and recruit as many muscles as possible (from years of trying to go heavy and not big).  Finally got good connection and pump!

Biceps were great. Solid throughout and finish by adding double bicep cables (very end before moderate ab session) and the blood was really pumping.  If I had a tan - it would have looked GREAT!!!  So I can see some real progress.  Now just need to keep hitting it so I can see some of that without working out for an hour lol ;-)

Keep it up!!!

“Frustrating Photos - Batman…”

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

NOT pleased with progress pics but I realize that I have to dig through the fat before any muscle progress is visible.  Since I am trying to gain muscles & lose fat at the same time - I realize changes will take another month or two to really start showing up.  I just want the physical change to show NOWWWWWW!  Good news - strength and endurance is up across the board and my joints are ready to handle freeweight training, aerobic system can start taking punishment, etc I have maintained weight while reducing fat so the plan is working - it is just sooooo slooooowwwww  to shooowwwwww!

Thanks to those of you who upload your pics - keeps me focused on progress in all its forms!
