Chest+ Bicep Week1

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Well, I guess any journey takes awhile to get gassed up, on the road, and out of town.

Really just coming to the end of the first week of the new diet discipline and gym work.  I am still worried about the tendonitis and being ultra sensitive to twinges.  On the other hand, I am exploring new machines so I guess that counts as stepping forward.

One really positive aspect of this particular journey is that the home diet is much more health focused so I cannot complain about lack of support there.  The whole family is trying to eat more organic foods, less red meat etc.  I just about blew my wife’s mind when I brought home egg whites and talked about cooking (I will pass on the story about exploding an antique glass plate in the microwave - let’s just say the kitchen is not my "home territory").

Still reeling from that blow to her reality - I pushed her a step closer to understanding the Matrix by actually eating zuccini - wonders never cease.  That probably convinced her to let me put up my progress pics.  Actually no progress yet but now I can remind myself why I started and (hopefully in the not to distant future) how far I have come.

Anyway - pretty good day today - not as intense as Friday with legs, but I am learning to work around the shoulder so I am confident next session will be a little more solid.  Its all about progress, right?

Leg Day - Week 1

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Nothing magical today but what an eye opener.  I am still recovering from tendonitis in my left shoulder so I thought I could hit legs.  Well, I was sort of right.

I warmed up five minutes on the bike, did a warm up set of leg presses (all machines for the first few weeks at least), and went to it.  I know machines have different gearing but my ego tells me that I am doing 3 sets so start with the 3rd weight from the bottom and go down to the the end.  I did 12,11,10 reps with reasonable effort - but the CARDIO impact!  Holy cow!  Just coming off the machine had me short of breath.

I moved on to hamstring curl, front curl, calf press, and tried out the glute machine.  Now - I am running short on time and feeling nauseous. I started to stretch out as a cool down but felt sick and headed to the lockers.  Newsflash - I definitely need more endurance before I can hope to survive one of my old school workouts (from when I was 24).  Fortunately - I had some Gatoraide and some BCAAs on hand and, sure enough, I started feeling human again in 10 minutes.  Of course, the rest and shower might have had something to do with it.

Anyway - it felt good to be in the gym again.  Even though my legs are not hurting at the moment - my brush with nausea told me I accomplished something.  In the past - I always fought through something like this as a barrier to conditioning.  As a trail marker - it tells me I am headed in the right direction.

Also - I have been pretty solid on the diet - another change for me.    Like the gym, I am going to give this some time to take affect but I can already feel little changes starting.  More detail on diet another time.  Have a Great Weekend!!!

Getting Started

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

OK - my first post.  I am very excited to launch this journal just as I have launched into my "new lifestyle".  It is hard to call it a lifestyle change when it has only been 3 days but if I keep adding "one day at a time" I know I can see results.  The only thing is - I have not really attacked a physical transformation in the last 6 years and my body seems more prone to injury, slower to recover, metabolism less responsive  - so it really is going to be a journey.

I look forward to recording it and sharing my experience with others and learning from what others have experienced before me.  I hope it will be fun, I know it will challenge me.
