Don’t ask the question,if you really don’t want the answer…
As of today I have lost 55 lbs. I still have a little ways to go. I work out 6 days a week, that includes cardio and abs, Sunday is my only day off. With that said, of course people have questions. I don’t mind them asking what it is I have been doing, I tell them proudly, I even direct them to bb.com for any other info they may need. What I do mind is when I am done they say well that’s alot of work, I don’t know if I could do that.
HUH!!! ???
Well either you want it or you don’t, I can’t make you do it, but if you want to lose weight, gain muscle and strength then this is what it takes.
I am tired of hearing them whine about how overweight they are, tired, etc… how they don’t have time to work out the way I do. If I can find the time so can they, I am up at 3 am most mornings, I do cardio and abs, then in the afternoon I do my workout, I have kids other things to do too. If you go home, sit and watch TV that is the time you should spend doing cardio or abs, "but I’m tired" is what I hear. Well I have a news flash for you… SO WAS I !!! but not anymore, I have more energy and feel so much better than I ever did. I also laugh because I am 51 years old, most of the whiners are 10 - 20 years younger than me !!! I tell them to start out slow with exercise, I did now it is just part of my day.
Then there is food…most of them also eat crap, fast food, huge deli sandwiches,my favorite a salad with chicken, bacon, cheese, and full fat ranch dressing with a side fo greasy garlic bread… "but I am eating healthy" Ah, no you are not!!!
They justify not eating healthy with the time constrants also. How hard is it the throw a salad into a container, get low fat or fat free dressing and open a can of tuna ? And think of all the money you would save…
Oh and about the time constraints, most of them have to watch their reality shows, that is why they don’t have time to work out, sooo… that is more important than your own survival, hmmm….
I did have quite the laugh on Friday when one gal who has asked me several questions and had made all the excuses…said that once her husband cleaned the garage she would start using the treadmill, and then she said, you use those little pink and purple weights right ???( this gal does not have a clue) I said what ???!!! Oh honey, I use 25- 30 lbs. for biceps, triceps, etc … and explained my gym, then I popped my bicep for her and her mouth dropped open, OMG!!! she said. It was pretty funny.(good thing it was back/biceps day on Friday)hehehe…
Bottom line either you want it or you don’t, and if you don’t then stop asking the question…because I can’t help you unless you want to help yourself.

I totaly agree with you. Since November Ive lost over 53lbs. and everybody has asked me the same questions as you stated, and I keep hearing the same excuses. People really need to read bb.com and just look at all the people who have changed their lives and feel better then they ever have.

That is one of the best things I have ever read. Very true.

Yes, you are dead on. It is a lifestyle change. When I first began to change I started small: No eating after 9PM, cardio, and core workouts. As I progressed I embraced the lifestyle, have done better with portion management, food choices, and for me more cardio. Start slow, make changes, enjoy the journey.

People have excuses, and then there are those who just have a skewed perspective of diet and exercise.
I had lost all of the 60 pounds I gained plus another 20 after I had my first son. I would bring in salads for lunch and my coworkers would bring in fast food.
One coworker brought in a chocolate cake she baked. We were all sitting in the lunch room eyeing the cake and the one who baked it said "Oh, it would be a sin to eat that cake. It would go right to my hips." Guess what she was eating when she said it? A double bacon cheeseburger from Wendy’s. Ugh. She’d be better off ditching the burger and having a slice of cake.
I told my dad he’d feel so much better if he walked daily. He’s says to me "Working out really kicks my ass and wipes me out." I told him it wouldn’t do that once he’s used to the exercise and he drops a bunch of pounds.
People frustrate me, but what can you do?

You are exactly right! I have lost 98 lbs. over the last 2 years, and I finally figured out that when they ask what you are doing to lose all that weight, they are just hoping you found a "magic" pill. Deep down they know the answer is proper nutrition and exercise. It’s worked for thousands of years, but people are afraid for some reason.
I watch sports on tv, and not much else, but when I bought my big HDTV it didn’t go in the den, it went in front of my weights. Back then I needed that, now I can’t go without my workout, it’s worse than anything I can imagine. Keep up the hard work.

Exactly. MOST people are lazy about their health, life, jobs, etc… Just don’t want to put any effort into it. I used to try to help people with fitness/diet plans, but for the most part it’s pointless - always a multitude of excuses, so I generally don’t do that any more. But then I’m a cranky, cantankerous old booger, so that just goes w/ the territory.
There was an article in the paper yesterday about a recent talk given by 77 y/o Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper, regarding the poor general level of fitness and obesity in this country. I thought the last sentence in the article was good: "Don’t die of something stupid."

Awesome for a new blog (love the ranty feel to it, because I agree that it’s rather annoying that some people would rather whine about their body/lifestyle rather than DO something about it!), and double awesome for the 55 pounds!! That’s absolutely amazing, congrats!!
And LOL about the pink dumbbells… you shoulda yelled at her "NO PINK DUMBBELLS!" all "NO WIRE HANGERS!" style!

Excuses are like a-holes…everyone has one and they usually stink! Way to tell it like it is Sunny!

Oh’ she didnt go there… she threw in the pink dumbbells. You are a much stronger person than I. pink db dont even make good paper weights.
when I was in college, the one major thing that changed my life was one statement a professor made on the first day of class. "Dont tell me you didnt have time to do the homework. That only means that you choose to do something else." I just let that carry over to everything I did from that point forward.
Your right. As long as you have an excuse, you wont get anywhere. Decide what your priority is and then kick some major iron butt. Way to tell them. I am so proud of you.

Well said, ‘ I would love to workout but I just don’t have time’. I think we’ve all heard people say this over and over again, and you are right on target. It’s about setting priorities and figuring out what you really want to do with your life. I haven’t met anyone yet that doesn’t have time to workout because they are busy with something every single minute of the day. That just doesn’t happen. Take away their TV, and they’ve probably just found a couple hours of free time at least. It’s all about choices. Great blog, keep up the great work!

my anger (aside from the obvious hearing annoying and overused excuses) is in that they judge you for doing it then! right!!?!! i don’t care that other people want to sit on thier fat asses eating chips all day, so why do they need to criticize us for putting this as our priorities instead of catching effing american idol! this is TOUGH.. how about al ittle respect!!?!!
i better stop before i get nastier! haha… this is my biggest pet peeve!
