This Isn’t Easy

Following on from my last blog about excuses I wanted to write about something else that really gets to me.

And that is cutting down someone who has worked their ass off to get where they are.

My last posting when I was in the army was working with civilians, and one of them in particular would whinge about everything we did - "nice for some, us workers don’t get to go to the gym in work hours" (as if he would set foot in a gym ever!) or "knocking off already" after starting 2 hours earlier than they did. We use to say to him that if it was so good to be a soldier why didn’t he ever join?

The reality is of course that life as a soldier is hard work but all he could see where the benefits.

Same goes for the gym "you have it easy with your metabolism, you don’t how hard it is for me, it is easy for you, your fit"

WRONG! you obviously don’t see me in the gym most days of the week. You don’t see me out on the road either running or on my bike, you don’t see what I eat, you don’t see that I very rarely go out on the weekends and have a drink let alone drink myself into a stupor.

If you were prepared to pull your finger out of your ass and work instead of always looking for a quick fix then maybe you could understand why we do what we do.

What we do isn’t easy. There is no magic pill, there is no big secret. I don’t know how often I say it but consistantly brings inevitability. Nobody’s perfect. I certainly am not. I cheat, more than I would like. But most nights I get home from work, eat my chicken breast and sweet potato and about an hour later I go to the gym and lift as heavy as I can.

This is my routine. This is what I consistantly do, and this is why I look the way I do. I could do better of course. But the results of my consistancy are why I am where I am.

If your routine is to get home from work and order takeout then sit on the couch don’t be surprised that you are overweight.

If on the other hand you are prepared to push yourself, you are welcome to join me, anytime you like, just be prepared to work :)

I f’ing hate people that pull that metabolism crap, it always makes me feel like screaming in their faces that I have to eat twice as much as them to put on muscle. for every benefit there’s an equal downside none of this is easy but thats why we love it right. Keep pushing brother

Very good blog my friend. I have overweight people ask me all the time…"How do you do it?" And then when I tell them and try to help them they have tons of excuses and say…"Well it’s easy for you!" Well guess again! It’s not easy! I’m just not a lazy slug!!

Actually, I used to be one of those people! I used to look at fit and tones people and smirk - hmmm they have an awesome metabolism, they have good genes.. you name it!

Then one day it hit me.. I could be like "them".. and my mindset started changing. Instead of envy - I grew admiration, and eventually I ventured over to ask: How did you do it? And surprisingly… they were more then willing to extend a helping hand! Thanks for living an example to the rest of us.

So true! It’s really hard work. It also annoys me when people say that I’m lucky to look like I do. Luck has nothing to do with it.

Good post dude. It’s more likely than not that we’ve all run into people with excuses… That makes it even more critical to offer a helping hand when someone decides to discard the excuses and make a change…

Shamed to say, I’ve been one of those people in the past… Now i am half way to being where you are!! I’m eating as much as ever and still loosing my BF, my metabolism is back on track…

Genetics & metabolism were definitely excuses i had used in my PAST. ffs i am 6′3" tall and up till i was 19 and dislocated my AC joint in my shoulder was fit and in good shape… the only excuse i have is being a lazy f*ck..

Good post man… i’m fired up for a workout now, bugger i gotta go out to work this morning, will smash it when i get home later….

Great post Ryan. i think that these days, people want a magic pill for everything. They don’t realise that a magic pill does not exist.

People wonder what the formula is to losing weight but they don’t realise that the true answer is right in front of their eyes. Hard work, exercise and nutrition.

Maybe some of us ought to keep before picks in our wallets for when we come across anyone who cuts down our accomplishments, or anyone doubts whether they can do what they want for their bodies too!

    A fiery post Ryan!

Ignorance is the reason why people use the metabolism thing as an excuse. It changes once you become informed. :)

yes! I whole heartedly agree!! I spend many hours a week working my butt off to build the muscle I have, and way more than that educating myself, eating and planning my food, etc. I truly consider this my 2nd job and not a hobby. Certainly not a 2nd or 3rd thought!! People really don’t get it….

Damn right if it was easy we’d all look like we wanted, its hard work!
