The Weirdest Comment Ever

I got an anonymous blog comment that I felt that I had to respond to:

Hey,

I was just surfing the net, and stumbled across this page.

IMHO, you looked great from only doing your pushups. Actually, I think you looked better then than now. I suppose tastes differ, but I find myself moving away from gym workouts and protein bars.

You’ve already demonstrated that you can be healthy and strong by simple calisthenics. Will a seventeen inch arm really bring more fufillment to your life?

Your call.

First off, thanks for the props and if that’s working for you more power to you.  As for me protein bars and the gym are one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.

Where my clothes used to swallow me now I fill them out.

Instead of being weak I feel strong.

Instead of being unhappy with how I look I can feel proud of what I’ve done and look forward to reaching for even higher goals.

People that used to joke about how skinny I was now can’t believe how much I’ve changed.

The gym is part of who I am now and I couldn’t be happier.  Bring on the 17 inch arms!

LOL! That *is* an odd message. But I loved your response to it. :D GO YOU! :) You’ll be posting about your 17’s in no time!

  2. Anon Says:

    Hey, thanks for the response!

I can’t fault your experiences. If protein bars and bigger pipes had that much of an effect on my sense of self-worth, I’d be in the gym right now as well.

Personally, I’ve found myself gravitating to wealth and relationships. Neither of which is aided by bodybuilding. I say this from someone who’s fluctuated in body weight from a skinny 160 lbs to a (relatively) bulky 220 lbs.

But tastes differ, as do life experiences. If you can’t hold you’re head high without a buff looking physique, you best continue with what you are doing.

    Take care big guy.

To the Anonymous Person Who Thinks 220 pounds is relative bulky:

You have got to be kidding me.

Relegating someone else’s inspirations and accomplishments below the endeavors you’ve oriented yourself toward is a superfluous waste of time. And pitifully veiled jealousy and disdain.

If you can hold your head high atop 220 pounds of…’bulk’…instead of a buff physique…fine.

It’s that you’ve convinced yourself it’s a thing to be proud of that is beyond us.

I don’t know how Anon could begrudge you wanting to improve your quality of life through physical fitness. If bigger pipes gives you health and well being well into old age, then all the power to you. How does this person know that you’re doing it solely for self worth?

And bodybuilding can enhance the money and relationships I’m sure you’re not discounting from your life.

  5. StressMonkey Says:

    Dear Anon,

Honestly did you expect my response to be different? You’re (anonymously) telling someone on a bodybuilding website that they would be better off not bodybuilding. I just don’t get it.

You make it sound like I’m partaking in some unpleasant, anti-social activity that removes me from society. I’ve learned to love going to the gym. I go a couple times a week. It makes me feel great, improves my health, and is starting to give me the body I’ve always wanted. I’m also quite proud of the fact that I’ve worked very hard to accomplish what I have. Will I hold my head high because of that? You’re damn right I will.

Good luck with the wealth and relationships. Those are an important part of my life as well, along with bodybuilding.

  6. fitnessfortune Says:

    Dear anon…
what you need to consider is not what the reason for our drive is….it may be wealth and relationships for some…esp relationships (it does help the libdo big time and you can actually access your parts easily with that drive and strength..so yeah it does help relationships and love)…but most of all bb or strength training keeps us HEALTHY…big pipes mean great blood flow and keeping body fat at a healthy level keeps it from coating our heart and lungs among other organs.

As far as wealth, you are more likely to succeed in life when you feel good inside and out than the opposite. Folks who are secure with who they are do not spend time putting others down…that’s just plain insecure.

Did you know that before you see any of that "bulky comfy stuff" you are "ok" with, it has already coated your organs and insides before giving you a glimpse of existing on the outside? You may want to consider that before deciding you are FINE with being lazy, comfy and bulky.

BB is not just about competition…it is about pride in oneself…body and mind. Do you have that? I doubt it, or you would be able to show your face and proudly say who you are.

I will send you good energies that some day you find your own way and stop wasting your energies on negatives and put them into something more productive…like getting healthy! Cheers!

Ok, I find this all very strange. Is this "Anon" person just trying to get a rise out of you, or are they serious? Mr. Monkey — You have done an amazing job with your physique — that is what we can learn from your page. What we don’t learn from your page is the rest of your daily life. That’s because this site is directed at the health, fitness, and physical well being of those who choose to participate in it. We are here to help, support, encourage, & motivate each other — in whatever our personal goals are. There are different ideas and ways to reach our different goals. That is one of the things that makes this site so great — other people’s insight! Unfortunately, there are some out there who completely misunderstand the whole concept. I can’t change anyone’s mind but my own, so I have to let those people think what they want. Hopefully, "Anon" will one day be able to see the benefit of working on one’s health — it will definitely make wealth & relationships MUCH better! Aside from living longer to enjoy it all, there are less obstacles in life when you are healthy. And I might add… the sex is better… Just saying.

I hope you stay encouraged, monkey boy. Your work has been outstanding & you should be proud of your accomplishments so far. As for "Anon" — I hope they find some happiness in life so they don’t feel the need to piss on someone elses.

    Long live the Monkey!

    Yours truly,
    Mr. $tak

  8. bhotex Says:

PS — my point about what we don’t learn from your page is this: Our lives consist of a lot more than just bodybuilding.com — that includes the wealth & relationships… Anon says those are the important things to Anon — who’s to say the monkey doesn’t find those things important. You are looking at a damn bodybuilding websit!

Hey Anon! Wanna arm wrestle?? Haha. This guy is a joke! I guess he has something against strength and fitness too?
