My first time….so be gentle…

So I just figured out the bodyblog thing a few minutes ago when I was on a friend’s page and got inspired to write one of my own. I would like to take the time to say thank you to Magnus. He was kind enough to vote me as an inspiration. That means a lot considering the people who I see in those spots. To think I’ve in any way reached their level in anything that I’ve done is a great achievement.

For those of you wondering about my goals for the olympics. My answer for now is this: 2 years ago I had my knee ripped apart during an arrest I was making on a shoplifter. It took a year for the surgery to be approved. During that time I became a father and am currently in the process of getting divorced. My goals have not changed in the slightest. I still think that I’m the best American heavyweight wrestler anywhere. Its been years since I’ve actually been in competition wrestling however. (which makes me wonder how many great wrestlers,or athelets in general are hiding in places like police stations, security offices and classrooms and various other workplaces) My point being,is that at 25,I feel like its a "now or never" thing. This fall I will be getting back on the mat on a "semi regular" basis. That is to say,I will be wrestling when I’m not working 50 hours or "fullfilling" my parental obligations. I will sacrifice a lot for my goal, but I will not compromise an ounce for my son.

What have I done to remain relavant ? I’ve been participating in grappling and MMA workouts on a sporatic basis. I alternate my lifting techniques to include 1.Strongman lifts 2.bodybuilding principles and 3.endurance burnouts so that my body is prepared to do absolutely anything asked of it. I also know that not many active wrestlers train as if they are fighting for their life. This is where I believe my true advantage comes in to play. I frequently "fight" with people who commit crimes. Many of these people are hardened felons with drug problems and weapons. In 3 years and more than 1000 apprehensions,I have yet to "lose a fight". (a special note: I do not use weapons and have never thrown a punch.I carry only my badge, cuffs, and brain)

What have I done? During competition I was an all american status wrestler with multiple medals won at a national level (ISWA,USA wrestling) in the late 1990s. I wrestled briefly in college where I was "undefeated" in the 5 freestyle open’s I attended. (where I beat some very well known wrestlers). In 2003 I was honored with the "Lifetime Achievement" award from Warren Central High School’s wrestling program. I flat out sucked in high school. My wrestling "career" was cut viciously short by a series of serious head injuries. I’d like to pretend those years never even happened, but I think I learned a lot about how to work through adversity and take a new road when it comes.

Anyway,I’m off to go lift some Heavy Ass Weights for now.

God Bless

Cam
