I Can’t Lift Weights And Chew Gum At The Same Time
I can walk and chew gum at the same time.
I can talk and chew gum at the same time.
I can even tap the top of my head and rub my belly at the same time (after a few tries and some hard concentration).
But chewing gum and lifting is something I can’t do.
Orbit gum is my new favorite gum of my life. It stays sweet for the longest time. It has a variety of fun, delicious flavors like
Maui Melon Mint,
Sangria Fresca,
Cinnamint,
Citrusmint,
(do not bother with the Fruitini…the flavor doesn’t last…must’ve been a bum pack),
and my all time flavorite….Mint Mojito.
It’s done nothing to clean up my dirty mouth since I continue to swear up a storm.
Anyway, I was chewing Maui Melon Mint while doing my bench press and for the life of me, I couldn’t get a good lift going.
I was concrentrating so hard on chewing that I couldn’t concentrate on getting the bar up and the lifts weren’t feeling as energetic as they usually are.
I decided to store it in the side of my cheek, but I couldn’t move my mouth around to groan and growl when lifting the weight because the gum would’ve fallen to the back of my throat causing me to choke.
The gum was such a damned distraction, but it was still so sweet and delicious. I knew what I had to do though. And it made me sad to do so.
So into the trash it went

I love that commercial. I used to chew gum and lift till I almost choked to death on it once.

I’m glad you got that solved. It would be pretty embarrassing to explain in the emergency room that you injured yourself because your gum distracted you. Have a good one.

Ditto w/ BryanGee. I can’t chew while lifting either…….afraid I’ll suck wind while lifting hard, but suck gum instead. No Heimlich Manuever on yours truly at the gym.

I thought when she called her a "lint licker", that was going way too far. Can’t handle that

This post was PRICELESS!! LMAO! I seriously want to pop a piece of gum in my mouth and go downstairs and see if I can lift and chew at the same time!!! Too funny Shannon!

Some bodybuilder named Skooby (or something like that) mentioned that chewing gum can be quite distracting.
Oh well, I still do it. What I do is store it near the back of my mouth during lifts, then resume chewing at the end of the set. Seems to work…
Although sticking it on the bar during the set does seem like a convenient idea…haha!

A classy broad like you shouldn’t be chewing gum in the first place.
I guess it’s better than chewing tobacco and wondering where to put the spittoon.

check - do not chew and lift.
did you try spitting the gum into the air, do the press and the catch the gum on the way down. I don’t know if it’s better, but you’ll call a lot of attention to yourself…

With my luck it would stick to my eye or land in my hair.

LOL… Shannon… stick to your eye?!?! You crack me up!

me neither! i was, however, overtraining myself by going to the gym every day. Wasn’t letting my muscles fully heal. The guys at live forever at http://letslivelonger.blogspot.com/2009/04/lift-weights-to-lose-weight.html told me to cut back to 3 days a week. Much better. I am wasting less of my time and gaining more muscle from the times I do a work out. Good to have some days just for cardio too. Thanks guys!
