Learn This Lesson And Learn It Well
My son’s basketball team is 0 and 8. I predict that after tonight’s game, they’ll be 0 and 9.
But you know something? They play their little hearts out every single game like they’re going to win. They’re hopeful each and every game. They don’t quit playing when they see the score is 15 to 50. They don’t get downtrodden when the ref tells the score keeper to stop keeping score in the middle of the game because the rift in the points is so damned wide.
Every game, all 10 boys show up to play like they’re going to win. And at every game, us parents pray that they at least score into the double digits :S
Tonight, the coach is going with a different approach to coaching the kids to see if it’ll work in helping them get a win for the game. He’s not giving up on them either. He keeps trying different things to see what works.
What do I see amongst the adults on this site? I see people who aren’t getting the results they want, so they sabotage themselves. They eat junk to sooth themselves which sets them deeper into the trap of an unhealthy lifestyle.
I see people who aren’t losing weight as fast as they’d like, so they get depressed and they give up hope.
Did the pilgrims give up when they came to this land we now call The United States Of America after most of them were being slaughtered by Indians, dying from freezing to death during the winter and dying of measles and gonorrhea?
No!
Did they all say "Goddamn, nothing is going right here. F*ck this! I’m going back to England!"
No! they stuck it out and forged ahead and improved upon what they did wrong the last time.
This great nation wasn’t born from a bunch of quitters!
So if your diet isn’t working for you, try a different approach. If cardio isn’t working for you, try burning more calories. If you’re not gaining muscle, try a different weight lifting routine.
You’re not seeing results fast enough? Well keep working and give up the "instant gratification" mindset. Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Rather than getting all depressed that nothing is working, keep searching for what WILL work.
Weight Training: bi’s and chest
Cardio: 600
Diet: good

GREAT post today Shannon! You should become a PT. You’d make a decent drill sergeant, kicking some lazy butts.
I hope your son’s team wins. Positive reinforcement helps too.

Actually, what helps the most is not dribbling the ball with your head down and passing it to the other team.

LOL. Well, I gotta tell ya, I probably couldn’t make your son’s team. When God gave out b-ball talent, I was definitely NOT standing in that line. There’s a reason I’m short at 5′6". He was screaming out to me…….don’t play b-ball. Go become a band geek.

My son’s team is 0-2 and play tomorrow am. They have lost by 1 point at both games. He gets so frustrated and "depressed." We gve tons of positive reinforcement last week b/c they held the other team scoreless in the 4th qtr and came back from being 10 pts down! Ahh, 10 yo boys. I’m at a loss sometimes. But I hear ya - don’t give up. Jimmy V had it right - Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.

Now that is some awesome attitude girl — very motivational. Shows that iron will/fighting spirit you have - fantastic!
Hope the kiddos fare better!

And because you have this great attitude, is why you have had such great progress in the past 2 months.
Definition of insanity = Keep doing the same thing, expecting different results.

I hope that EACH kid on the team scores points.

Damn, Shan. your on point today. All motivational and all.
Im glad to hear that your son’s team play each game with full force. In the end, thats the purpose of playin anyway, I think. I hope they win a game soon. Best of luck to them.
Ya got the right mindset. Love it.

I say we take the whole team and teach them to beat up other kids!!! I’m just saying…if you can’t beat them…F*ck joining them… Really beat them down! Okay I guess that explains why I’m not allowed to coach my son’s soccer team any more!….ooppps!

I like what you had to say. Makes me reflect about my blog and about not understanding my training. I need to get out of that instant gratification mindset and keep on keep’n on! Love the blogs by the way.
