If You Think It’s Expensive To Be Healthy, You’re Fooling Yourself

So I’m upstairs a little while ago doing laundry :S and I’m watching "Ruby" that I DVR’d off the Style Network.

It’s about a 500+ pound woman’s journey to losing weight.

She went through a snap shot of what life was like for her and she revealed that each pair of her underwear costs $30.  You figure…you HOPE she’s got several pair.  She’s paying for a gym membership right there.

Now she’s on disability because of the health conditions her obesity is causing and now money is tight.  No obesity + good chance of no health conditions = job = no money problems.

So if you think that paying for all of those fruits and vegetables is expensive, it beats paying for a $30 pair of underwear!

Weight Training:  Shoulder, back, abs

Cardio:  500

Breakfast:  Eggs

whole wheat toast

coffee w/ milk

Snack:  orange

Lunch:  Chicken

spinach and feta salad

Dinner:  Chicken parm sandwich (homemade)

Dayum! That would make me want to go commando! Too much info?

  2. ShanBL Says:

I got chills thinking about you at 500 pounds going commando.

I just lost my appetite for the next meal. And to think she probably gets winded just walking up 2-3 steps, let alone 2-3 flights!

That really puts it all in perspective. People always say it’s expensive to be healthy, but when you try to explain the health care costs, they just shoot you down. But $30 for a pair of underwear? How the heck can somebody even BEGIN to try to rationalize, that?

That’s funny you bring this up. Our neighbors asked us we were spending more on food now. We laughed and so no, it’s actually less because we’re not eating out or drinking!

Some people just do not want to change their ways… it’s sad really.

  6. kbyers01 Says:

I can’t imagine paying that much for one pair of underwear, heck that’s a lingerie outfit there, and that’s for fun not a necessity.

  7. ZARia9999 Says:

Watching that show has really motivated me.. I’ve managed to loose 3lbs over the holidays, becuase of watching that and other shows, reading positive material and also just continuously asking myself.. if whatever I’m considering doing is taking met TO or FROM my goals..

She is having a struggle, but I think she should really spend a LOT more time on her emotional issues!

  8. janthony Says:

What kind of underwear is it?

I mean, is Ruby buying VS thongs or K-Mart brand?

  9. 12weekhardbody Says:

We should watch tv together…I saw this show as well. I can’t believe that her face is not fat. You’d think at 500+ she would have many a chin but she really only has the one….WTF?

  10. Motorbiker Says:

Wow…I spent 50 bucks for 2 pairs of underwear. got tired of buying cheap walmart brand. Oh well, I had the money at the time.

I dont think eating healthy is expensive, but it is annoying having to go back to the damn grocery store 2, sometimes even 3 times a week cause I run out of something. Milk, bread, eggs, fruit, meats. Why can’t they run out at the same damn time! GRRR! Oh well, should be worth it in the end, right?

OH, and you gotta watch Wall-E! Its a great movie, for kids and even adults.Good moral in the end, plus, shows a horrible side of obesity in the future. Must watch it! then you’ll understand why I brought up Wall-E in the spork talk. haha, laters. Gonna try squatting 200lbs today! YAY!

  11. Stryka Says:

I know what you mean motorbiker about always running back to the grocery store. In my case that is compounded by the fact that the store with the cheap chicken breast isn’t the store with the cheap steak which isn’t the store with the cheap veggies which isn’t the store with the cheap eggs all of which aren’t normally open when I am not at work.
