I Did 500 REAL Pushups (Not Girl Ones)
As a way to see how far along I’ve gotten strength-wise AND to give me a good workout for chest day, Janthony wanted me to see how long it took me to do 500 pushups.
They had to be done all at once, not spread out throughout the day (DAMN).
So I started off with 30 all at once. THAT is the most I’ve ever done in one pop like that. My highest has been 15. SO, that shows right away that I’ve gotten stronger.
And then after that I was able to do 10-15 before having to rest a bit, and then it dropped to a steady 9, and then 8, and I didn’t think I’d be able to do the last 25, but I did it.
At one point, I forget how many I told him I had to go, but he said once I got to the point where I couldn’t go past 5 in a row, then I could stop, but I told him I wanted to finish no matter what.
There was no way I was going to be that close to 500 and not be able to say that I did 500 pushups.
It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete it…..barring some short interruptions like phone calls that my husband was insistent on making to me, so I HAD to answer, LOL.
Luckily the kids were outside sleigh riding, but at one point my youngest plopped his gloves on my back in the middle of doing my 400-something pushup and he might as well have put a cinder block on my back, LMAO. NO extra weight needed to go there…thanks.
The next time he has me do this, I’ve got to beat my time. And we’re hoping I can get to 50 pushups in a row at the beginning.
It’s still snowing here since around 2 p.m. yesterday. We might have about 8 inches on the ground now. I don’t know how much more we’re getting.
But I never made it to the gym because of it. At home after the pushups, I did however finish up the bicep and calf routine I had in addition to chest yesterday.
I took Superpump after the pushups, but before doing calves and biceps and by the middle of my routine, my biceps were like totally swole (hehehe). So I showed my oldest son my muscle and he was actually impressed! For the first time ever!
So he said I want to do what you’re doing. I gave him 5 lb weights and we started working out together.
He said, "I’m going to look so PUMPED tomorrow for the basketball game." He’s only 8 years old. He was expecting Superman muscles.
Oh yeah, and guess what!! My appetite came back and now I’m constantly hungry. That is a blessing and a curse, haha.

Were they ‘real’ pushups or ‘girl’ ones?
My 10y/o was looking at my bicep yesterday a.m. (she has done that 2x in the last week - why?) and then proceeded to show me how to do girl pushups, but she does the boy ones b/c they are harder.
That just cracks me up. Boy or girl, 500 is an accomplishment. I would have trouble with 500 girl ones.

I was waiting for someone to ask what kind of pushups they were. They were REAL pushups. NOT girl ones.

That is awesome Shan! I have never tried doing 500 straight but I was able to work up to 500 in a night when I was in the military. We challenged ourselves to do 50 every 30 minutes. What I learned from that experiment is that if you keep working on pushups, you increase in ability quickly. I did not know the mechanics of it until fairly recently. Since pushups are one of the best multi-joint exercises you can do, there is a strong anabolic effect when you do them. They build muscles much better than isolated movements. You do that experiment regulary and you will be doing 500 in a row before you know it.
