At the 2008 IPF Masters World Powerlifting Championships over the last week (see my post below) I had a chance to see 42 year old Brad Gillingham set a new world record for this federation. This was 395 kilograms which is about 871 pounds. Not a bad lift for a kid…

He is a big kid though, 6-5 and 331 pounds. And you might notice that he doesn’t use a reverse grip, both hands are overhand.

This is a little about bodybuilding photography and something special for me. While it is always nice to hear compliments about my photography, we all like that, it is another thing to be recognized for it within the photography industry and especially for my bodybuilding photography. And even better to be recognized by one of the top professional camera manufacturers. Many of you have commented at the shows and at photo shoots about my really big….. camera. I often shoot with what is called ‘medium format’ with a Mamiya camera.

For over 50 years, Mamiya has been among the best for professional cameras and lenses. And Mamiya has been my choice for much of my work in both film and digital formats. It is my Mamiya that is first out of my bag when I need the best images and the most reliable camera system to get it for me.
Now Mamiya has started a Blog "Celebrating Mamiya Photographers Around The World" and I am very proud to be one of the first photographers to be featured.
So check out the Mamiya website at Mamiya.com and click on the Blog. And in the future you might be seeing and hearing more from me there too.

I happened to stop in at the 2008 IPF Masters World Powerlifting Championships over the last week. A competition that brought in 273 competitors from 32 countries around the world, all over 40 years old. It is a lot different from bodybuilding for sure. Like here we have Samuel Archibong from Nigeria who I guess just decided to do a little work out while he was waiting around…

This is backstage and he just did a few reps steadily working his way up to this lift at 675 lbs. And he had no trouble going on up with it and racking the bar himself. I left shortly thereafter; he stayed behind maybe doing something more challenging.

Any idea who this Grandma is?

She has 6 kids, yeah! SIX KIDS! And has one grandchild. Goes to show ya what a lifestyle of health and fitness can do for you. I also have to tell you that she has a great husband who completely supports her endeavors and is very proud of her. She is one of the most popular BodySpace members here…. Amy Suds!
Ok… One more…

I am at the beach for tomorrow’s bodybuilding competition at Muscle Beach. And it is shaping up to be a big fun day. Lot’s of competitors from around everywhere including Dean Ash who came from England to do the show. Here he is doing an exhibition preview today for the crowd.

There will be a big Labor day crowd at the beach for the end of the Summer, all the Venice Beach color and excitement. And… I happen to know MTV will be at the show doing something special. So come on out and join the fun. And look for me and say Hi!

So what do you do? Call a firefighter…

And this firefighter is indeed a real life firefighter, figure competitor and BodySpace member, Nola Trimble. Click right here and and let her know she looks pretty good in her turnout gear. And why is she smiling at my camera? Hmmm…
