Bad Eating Weekend - But Will Get Back On Track

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

I had a horrible eating weekend.  I had drinks (martinis) on Friday night.  I had donuts on Saturday and fried Chicken that evening.  On Sunday I fixed buttermilk sweet potato pies.  I have probably added a pound of fat this weekend.  Nonetheless, I must jump back on the ship - and let a bad eating weekend be just that and not turn into a bad eating week or month.  All in all, maybe it isn’t so bad to have a bad eating weekend - as long as your ‘weight training conscience’ clues you in to how bad it was.  I’d probably be in worse shape if I didn’t feel bad about eating like that.

Well this post will serve as a reminder for me when I get those bad eating temptations.

50 minute pleasure jog

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

I just went on a run and was able to go for about 50 minutes.  That is the longest run I have done in a while.  I feel great!  I know going for more than 30 minutes doesn’t necessarily help you in the muscle burning category, but it still felt good.  For me that is the best thing about working out.  Feeling good about yourself - whether that ‘good feeling’ comes from hitting your weight goal, lifting more than you ever have, finally fitting into that certain size clothing, or competing in your first competition.  It is ‘all good’.

Happy Training,
Eric

Change In Workout

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

I’ve been doing a lot of reading and am going to try hitting a body part once per week (instead of 1.5 times).  I plan to work each body part harder that one day and get full recovery.  Fortunately, I am noticing small changes - harder legs (especially hamstrings), fuller arms, and shoulders starting to filling.

I have observed by looking at how some of the pros do their squats, that I need to squat closer to a 90 degree angle.  To accomplish that I am going to reduce the weight I am squatting.  My legs probably come to a 100 degree angle instead of 90-95.  I definitely want full legs, so I can obtain a balanced look.

I am beginning to understand that is important to leave the ego at home and focus on the movement.  You don’t always have to pump heavy weight to grow muscle.  I know we have all seen the super strong person in the gym that can push massive amounts of weight, but their physique sucks.

Finally, because I live in the Midwest and fall and winter are approaching - I am going to focus more on muscle development.  Heck - it is time to break out the long sleeves and eventually sweaters - so I am not as focused on ripping up.  However, my body fat % (of which I don’t know, but know it is high) will probably still come down some.

This whole body building ‘thing’ is really part science part art.  You have to get in tuned with your body to really understand what works for you.
