I had a particularly early start today… which means that same amount of food spread over a longer day… which means I’m starving. So I’m writing to take my mind off food.
- I had to stop going to H.E.B (grocery chain here). Damn them and their bakery samples.
- My husband brought M&Ms home yesterday. I put them in my bra and now I am an A cup again.
- I dropped a piece of chicken on the floor yesterday and my dog and I raced to see who could get it first. I think I have a problem.
- If I beat my dog to the chicken, can I call that cardio?
- Speaking of cardio, spinning class sucks. Spinning after an egg white breakfast also sucks for the person behind me.
Okay. I’ve wasted 5 minutes. Only an hour and half to go before my next meal. Damn this is going to a long blog.
- I gain weight through osmosis. Really. I gained two pounds this weekend and didn’t cheat AT ALL. But I did watch the food network for a while. Doh!
- I bought huge amounts of Easter candy this weekend as post contest treats. Not smart. They are taunting me mercilessly.
- In case you are wondering, I have 2 marshmellow eggs, 1 white chocolate reeses egg, 1 strawberry cream egg, 2 carmel eggs, 1 cadburry cream, 1 snickers bunny, some speckled malt balls, a bag of carmel kisses and a bag of white chocolate kisses. I’m kicking myself for forgetting the peeps.
- I have another contest two weeks after the first. I think I should skip the peeps.
Sigh. I’m hungry and tired of trying to be clever. Not that it was working out all that well for me anyway. Writing about food is clearly not the best way to forget about food. Screw it, I’m going to go eat early. I’ll just have to go to bed at 4pm this afternoon. Have a good day, peeps! Ooops. Freudian slip.

So I got the bright idea of doing fitness this year and decided to try to put together a routine 2 months out. Bear in mind that I’m in my 30s and I haven’t done gymnastics in about 20 years and have no dance back ground. Yet for some odd reason, I thought this wouldn’t be a problem with 2 months worth of work. HA HA HA. So I’m exactly 2 weeeks away and I still have not done the whole routine all the way through. Heck, I just got the stupid one handed push-up this week and my center splits aren’t exactly there. WTF? So what to do? Drop out and just stick with figure? Do the damn routine anyway just for the experience? If it was a small local show maybe I wouldn’t be so freaked out, but it’s a national level show for heaven’s sake! What was I thinking?

Woot! My first blog. How exciting.
I am preparing for my second season of figure competitions and my first fitness competition. I’ll be doing my first show, the Ronnie Coleman Classic, in just 7 weeks. I don’t know if my fitness routine will be ready yet, but I will definitely do figure and enter the fitness division in at least one of my shows this year. I think I might have gotten more than I bargained for trying to learn a fitness routine. Doing gymnastics in your 30s has proven to be quite the challenge!
Last year, I kept a journal through out my contest prep and made so many incredible friends. Then I dissapeared. So to old friends, I apologize. I found that contest prep (and the post contest rebound!) did strange things to me. I needed to step away for a while and reevaluate my goals and my priorities and get my life back on track. It was consuming me. And while I enjoyed it, it just became too much. I had to quit the boards cold-turkey!
I’ve always been an all or nothing kind of gal, so this year my goal is to find a balance in all of this and enjoy all facets of my life and work. Don’t think I don’t peak in and keep an eye on you gals though!
In an effort to take some of the pressure off myself, I broke down and enlisted a trainer and nutritionist this year. I’m working with Kim Oddo, who is Monica Brant’s (among many other pros) nutritionist. It’s been a life-saver. I used to drive myself crazy analyzing every little facet of my diet all the time… now I don’t think, I just do! I have a good deal more muscle than I did this time last year, I just hope I can get as lean.
I look forward to following along with everyone and sharing our contest prep woes as season nears!
