April Stats

Is there such a thing as a fat dance?..:)

I’m very pleased with my progress. April has been a good month! I didn’t change my weight training at all this month and just decided to maintain the load. I figured I was pushing heavy enough…for now. But the big change is to my cardio plan..I ramped it up! Plus, I put myself on a very strict diet for a couple weeks….all of those combined are definitely working.  I’m sure I gained muscle this month..no doubt about that…AND I dropped 6 pounds.  Bring on the month of May…I am SO ready…:D

Spa Day…coming up!

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I’m just doing my Friday Dance….Not much to post about, but very happy it’s the weekend! Big plans to get a lot of homework done, hit the gym hard, and THEN have one very nice long massage!

Spa day…Some may not think of it as a spa type of day, with all the weights and cardio I’ve got planned, but for me it is.  I almost have a Pavlov’s dog response to this once a month treat.  It’s my one reward to myself that I truly look forward to…..only I have to pile on the weights, hit the cardio hard before I get my reward! For those who have had an hour long massage…with the oils, soft music and a masseuse who knows how to dig deep…YOU know what I’m talkin’ about….:)

Just..Buck UP!!

YAH….I’m back.

I HATE being sick…I’m a terrible patient, I have no patience. When I get focused on getting into shape I don’t like anything to stand in my way…that includes getting sick! Between hacking, coughing, losing my voice, not sleeping…blah, blah, blah…it’s been a rough few days…BUT NO MORE.

Cranked out an hour of cardio last night, as well as an hour of upper body work….I’ve got guns, and the back and legs are coming along nicely….they just don’t show yet (too much fat), but my massuese knows how much muscles is there!!

Tonight is an hour on the elliptical and abs…..Woo Hoo…. :D

I Need……..Sleep

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

It’s been one crazy week. Between too much school work (final week of doubled classes), coming down with a full-fledged spring cold, completely losing my voice and having way too many problems to solve at work….I’m TIRED.  I did manage to get in a couple of good workout days at the beginning of the week….and then the remainder of the week went right out the window!  So..the plan…Yes, I do have one.  ;)

Tonight, this little girl is going to be in bed by 9pm…so hopefully, I will be refreshed and ready to have a great workout in the gym tomorrow. I’ve hated missing so many days of cardio and weight-training, but realistically I just couldn’t do it all.

Here’s hoping this coming week is business as usual.

My Elliptical hates me.

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I drag my a$$ out of bed 3 days a week at 5am to do cardio in the morning before I go to work (then I head to the gym in the evening to do another set)…the elliptical is not my favorite piece of equipment…and I think it knows it!!

My usual planned routine on this sucker is to keep it at a continuous, slow burn for at least a half hour, but for some reason by the 15 minute mark I’m at a flat out run and on the verge of a heart attack!!  I’m not doing it on purpose….I’m not listening to any music that would speed up my tempo…I’m barely awake at that time of the morning!  I finally had to remove the water bottle holder because it kept hitting my leg in one specific spot…leaving a monstrous bruise.

Whomever invented this piece of equipment from hell, should be taken out back and whipped…:p..just kidding.  I’ll try to make friends with it and improve our relationship, but I’m not promising that it’s going to be easy.

Batter UP!!

Woo Hoo!!  I LOVE softball…:)

I play in a co-ed softball league….and it is so much fun.  I’ve been playing most of the last 13 years.  Our team is a real mix of ages…our pitcher is 76 and the youngest is my daughter who is now 20 (she’s been on the team for the last 3 years) Our season officially starts next weekend, so we’ve had a couple practices to get us all moving again.  I sure notice the difference now that I’ve been back in the gym these past few months. My upper body is much stronger…I’ve been practicing my switch hitting and I’m getting pretty darn good at it too….if I can blow my own horn, just a little!!

This is going to be a special year because I will have all three of my kids on the team with me…this is the first time. I will cherish these memories forever.

Training…onward and upward!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

Here’s a taste of the training I’ve been doing the last month or so:

Weight Training – Upper Body:

Pullover Lateral – 105 lbs, (3 sets, 12 reps each) starting at 75 lbs
Pull Down Lateral – 105 lbs, (3 sets, 12 reps each) starting at 75 lbs
Lateral Raise (deltoids) – 45 lbs, (3 sets 12 reps each) starting at 35 lbs
Front Chest Press – 50 lbs, (3 sets 12 reps each) starting at 35 lbs
Incline Chest Press – 85 lbs, (3 sets 12 reps each) starting at 60 lbs
Biceps and Triceps – 40-45 lbs, (3 sets 12 reps each)

Weight Training – Lower Body:
Hip Adductor (press knees inward) – 190 lbs (3 sets, 12 reps each) staring at 170 lbs
Hip Abductor (press knees outward) – 110 lbs (3 sets, 12 reps each) starting at 90 lbs
Laying leg curl – 70 lbs (3 sets, 12 reps each) starting at 50 lbs
Sitting Leg Press – 315 lbs (3 – 4 sets, 12 reps each) starting at 255 lbs

Core Training (Abs):
Pilates and crunches
Most of this is done in my living room with an 8 lbs medicine ball.

Cardio:
60 – 70 minutes – 3 days a week mostly treadmill with a 3-5 incline
30 – 40 minutes – 3 days a week, treadmill or elliptical (soon to implement powercycling)

AND…I’ve just implemented daily doubles three days a week, with a split on the times….40 minutes in the morning and 70 minutes in the evening.

Burn, Burn, Burn!!

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

Finally…I’m on track. For the last couple of weeks I’ve been talking about daily doubles, but due to illness and other unexpected events I’ve had trouble actually engaging.  WELL…this weekend it finally happened!!  Yes, I’m a little sore but I feel very satisfied that I was able to make it happen. My goal is to hit the cardio HARD for the next month…time to bring on some serious fat burn. Can I do this everyday?….I’m certainly going to try!!  My actual schedule is to do daily double every other day and some type of cardio on the remaining days. The first 40 lbs I lost a couple years ago was achieved by doing daily doubles power cycling and I’m sure that will be in my regime, as well.  Time to make this happen. The weight training is coming along just fine, but the cardio is what will give me satisfaction.
