Well i'm glad u kicked it, good for you! thats an amazing feat and shows great resiliency for you to have survived it...ive been in a similar boat myself but thats neither here nor there...i will agree and agree to disagree with you on different aspects...nowhere in the blog did i say the withdrawal from sugar would be anywhere similar to the withdrawal of drugs thats a given, what it says is that it can be harder to overcome...this is a long term thing...

for one, you can always have cravings for drugs but you can also avoid the places you once got them from, they are not in your face every day, they are not hidden in daily food or drinks you consume, they are not pushed on you by corporations at work, in school, in the grocery store, there isnt a pusher on every street corner like mcdonalds calling your name...

secondly, as you pointed out, most of begin addictions in the womb before we are even born, all through our childhood, young adulthood etcetera...in an average case, we are not exposed to illegal drugs as children and those who are, intervention is fast and fierce when possible (i work in the justice system and the effects of FASD on children is excruciating to see)

third, in the long run sugar and processed food can do as much damage as drugs to the body, whereas drugs do more damage to the mind and the body second, sugar attacks the body first and foremost, the mind second...drugs can lead to death but in moderation some people can survive just fine they say...same with sugar, over-consumption can lead to death, moderation can be fine for most...type 2 diabetes, one of the biggest killers in society today, caused by sugar and poor diet alone, the sole cause of it is diet, nothing else...it stresses organs, can lead to pancreatic cancer and the list goes on...

both are mind altering, both are addictive, both have long term damage potential and both can lead to death

although drugs have more extreme symptoms, the general science behind the two are the same which is what this blog was saying...it was not saying the symptoms are the same, that the withdrawal is the same, its simply saying, both are highly addictive, mood altering (both affect dopamine receptors in the brain, which is another reason why marihuana use can lead to schizophrenia in pre-disposed persons), both have physical dependency issues, etc...

but i will agree that withdrawal from sugar is not like withdrawal from drugs but like i said in the long term, its easier to stay away from drugs than it is sugar, which is what this blog was about

i have great respect for recovering drug addicts and alcohol addicts, the same as i do for recovering mental health patients who have mental dependencies and compulsions, addictions whether mental or physical, no matter what the addiction is to, although some may have more severe effects than others, the process is the same, the mental element is the same, there is just extreme ends of addiction, sugar at the low, heroine at the high

i personally would like to stay out of the addiction category all together, and im glad u have too

As someone who overcame a drug addiction I know from personal experience that sugar is nowhere near as tough to get off of as heroin or speed. People can say all they want about sugar addictions being hard to get off of, but compared to rolling around the floor tearing at your skin, screaming at hallucinations and vomiting until there was nothing to bring up but blood and then vomiting some more during drug withdrawal it is like night and day.
I will say that it is difficult for the majority of people, especially those of the last few generations, because they have been spoon-fed sugar in various forms since birth and in many cases while still in the womb. We have been led down the garden path once again by big business who convinced government that all was well and just a little sugar but they managed to find a way to put a little sugar into everything we ate and that little bit combined over the long haul did a great deal of damage.
Even now as your blog points out they are finding new and improved ways of naming sugar as well as hiding it in foods that really don’t need any.
Years ago I read a book titled, Sugar Blues, which gave the history of sugar and it named names like Coca Cola etc. and how big an impact they had on getting people addicted to sugar. It sure opened my eyes.

this is a crazy comparison! I liked it but just imagining sugars properties being similar to cocaine in it's chemical alterations and addictive characteristics is eye-opening.

Nice one.

Awesome blog!! And definatly so true! I'm a recovering sugar addict who occassionaly falls into the trap of the 'self medicating sugar binge' but for the most part have replaced that with the adrenaline high of workouts!
