Got the day off work today

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

It’s day 3 of this stupid boot, and I hate it.  I keep telling myself it’s temporary and at least I don’t have to have surgery.  Today, I’m working on cleaning, so I hope that I can find my pilates DVDs.  I think I’m gonna do that and weights for a while.  I’m gonna continue to swim and bike too.

I’m also a Certified Flight Instructor and I have to renew this month.  I HAVE to work on that today.  No ifs, ands or buts!!!!!

Has Chuck Norris ever done THIS?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

:) :) :)

I hurt my foot back in January.  I knew I broke it right away.  I went to the Dr. and he said it wasn’t broken.  "Take it easy for a week and you’ll be fine."

Fast forward to 3 weeks ago.  My foot STILL hurts.  I STILL can’t run a mile.  My foot swells up here and there.  I can’t wear high heels at all.  So, I make an appointment with an actual podiatrist.

I did my triathlon on Saturday.  I finished 20 minutes faster than I planned.  yay for me!  Race report will follow sometime soon. (I need to write it up yet.)

Today, I went to the podiatrist.  I’ve been walking around with 2 broken bones in my foot for 6 months.  That means I did my triathlon on Saturday, and did a 10k earlier in June on a broken foot.  Does that qualify me as hard core?  Or just stupid?  :P

Here’s my 1st question: Has Chuck Norris ever done a tri with a broken foot?  LOL

My triathlon plans for the summer are finished.  I can swim, bike as long as I stay in the saddle, but no running.  I think I’m just gonna hit the weights hard core.  I have NROL.  Today I did a modified workout from that book since I really can’t do any weight-bearing leg exercises.  I did leg extensions and leg curls (yuck) but it’s better than nothing at this point.

Here’s my 2nd question:  I am a goal-oriented person.  I always need to be working towards something.  For me, it was a triathlon, 5k race, something like that.  Now, I need something new to work towards that I can do with my foot.  My mom suggested a figure competition, but I haven’t attempted it in the past since I don’t want to make the necessary diet changes (I enjoy a few beers on the weekends and like to have pizza here and there.)  But maybe I will reconsider that.  Maybe if I understood that it’s not forever, I’d be able to do it.  I don’t know.  The question is:  anyone have any other ideas of what I can set as a goal?  I need it to be something external - like a competition.  That’s just who I am!

Triathlon day on Sat

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

This Saturday is my first triathlon in 5 years.  I am so pumped!  I just got a new road bike in March, so I’m getting some great use of it.  It is a mini-sprint - 200 yd swim, 10 mi bike, 1.5 mi run.  I picked it mostly because I hurt my foot in January and am nervous about the run part.  I will probably have to walk most of it.  I do have an appointment with a podiatrist on July 1 though.

Tonight was spent getting ready for the tri.  Getting my transition setup and making sure I am not forgetting anything.  My mom is coming too so I’m hoping to get some great pics!

I think I’m no longer a vegetarian

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

I ate chicken last night and I LOOOOOOOVED it.  The first bite was heavenly.  I baked one chicken breast and used minimal spices so I didn’t upset my stomach.  I ate 1/4 of the chicken breast and wanted to eat it all!  Of course, I don’t want to get sick though.  So I’m going to eat another 1/4 tonight.  My cat went CRAZZZZZZZZYYY!  She was seriously on the prowl last night.  She was running around the house like "OMG, I haven’t had chicken in 4 years and it tastes sooooo good!"  So basically, she was acting like me.  :)

So, I’m eating chicken and fish.  No red meat or pork.  Both are absolutely disgusting to me.  I also took progress pics this morning.  I want to see how changing my diet affects how I look.  I was a vegetarian because I wanted to force myself to eat healthier, but I don’t think I was doing a very good job.  Now I want to see how well I can do now that I’ve added chicken back into my diet.  I’m not posting the pics here yet.  The usual……. I don’t have enough guts to do it!

A big decision….

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

I have been a vegetarian for 4 years.  But I have been one of and on my whole life.  I usually will go 2-4 years without eating meat, then I will start up again.  The past few weeks, I’ve been thinking about eating chicken again.  I realllllyyyy want it.  This is the longest I’ve been a vegetarian.  I had some fish at the VFW about a month ago, and now I’m just ravenous for fish and chicken.  I don’t like pork or red meat at all, so I don’t see myself ever eating that again.  And, I’m a vegetarian simply because I don’t like meat.  Rather than come across as a picky eater, it was easier to just go vegetarian.

I think maybe this week I am going to take some steps to get my body used to chicken again.  I was thinking about eating about 1/4 of a chicken breast every other day this week and seeing how I feel.  I haven’t been in the meat section of the grocery store for 4 years this month!

Anybody else have any experiences starting to eat meat again?  The last time I came off my veg diet, I just ate a huge cheeseburger. Yeah, I got really sick!  Not doing that one again!!!

Plan for the week

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Obviously a little planning goes a long way so I’m going to write it up here.  I still haven’t done much since I had my wisdom teeth removed.  I’m still in a lot of pain, but I know that I’m losing fitness, so I really need to get back to it.

Monday: 1/2 hour walk
Tuesday: My birthday (OFF) Going out for dinner with friends.  Possibly walk on lunch break depending on workload.
Wednesday: 1/2 hour walk - weights (need to get started on NROL again)
Thursday: Open water swim
Friday: 1/2 hour walk - weights
Sat: walk a 10k
Sunday: 1/2 hour walk

I’m also going to set up a little area in my basement for me to do cardio and some weights.  I have a small tv so that I can play dvds.  I just need to get my treadmill back, and I’ll have a nice little setup down there!  I think I’ll start on it tomorrow for a bit, then work on it more on Wednesday night.  I’m really excited about this!  I have so much junk in my basement, that when I started cleaning I realized how much extra room I have!!!

I’m still here!

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Wow.  Last October was my last post.  Guess I need to get my arse back here more often.  I was hanging out at another site for a while, but I always seem to come back here!

Here’s what I’ve been up to…

I bought The New Rules of Lifting and followed that for a few months.  I saw great progress and even lost the weight I wanted to lose.  I started working 60-70 hr weeks and I used that as an excuse to let my lifting go.  I haven’t lifted in 2 months!!!

I bought a new road bike in March, and I’ve been having a ton of fun with that.  There’s so much I need to learn, like how to change a flat, but there’s time for that…. until I get a flat!

Here she is:

My bike

So, I’ve decided to get back into triathlons.  I completes a tri a few years ago, and that was it.  Now I have an awesome new bike, so I’m gonna do it.  I had my wisdom teeth out 2 weeks ago and was on painkillers until yesterday.  So I haven’t worked out in 2 weeks, but I think I can still swing it!

Glad to be back….

I can’t find cycling shoes!

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

UUUgh.  Well, I went to a cycling shop on Saturday and of course they didn’t have any shoes that fit me.  I shouldn’t say that - there was one pair, but they were $130, not including cleats.  Those cost more than my running shoes, and running shoes are about the only shoes I’ll spend more than $75 on.  Otherwise $75 is my limit.  So, I’ve been shopping around online and I haven’t really found any decent sites that carry my size.  WTF?  I found a pair on eBay, and I lost the bid in the last few hours.  Oh well.

Here is my plan for this week:
1.  A bowl of All Bran EVERY day.
2.  Veggies EVERY day.

    Mon

Run 20 min
Step class
Weights

    Tues

Run 20 min
Pilates

    Wed

Run 20 min
Spinning

    Thur

Some sort of movement, not sure what yet.  I’m going to wait to see how my body feels.  This is only week #2 of amping up my exercise routine.

    Fri

Would usually be spinning then weights, but I am going to see Chelsea Handler perform live, so I won’t have time to workout after work.  I will need to make this up on Sat which was a planned OFF day.

    Sat

Spinning
Weights

I am finally to the point where I am not completely drained after working out, so I am really trying to work harder during my workouts.  My boyfriend even commented on how hard my bum is getting!

I am so excited to see Chelsea!!!

Happy Saturday!

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

I lost 3.8 pounds this week!!!!!  :) :) :) :) :)   I have 6 pounds to go til I’m back to my WW goal and 11 to go til I’m at my personal goal.  I wanted to do it by Christmas, but I think I can do it before Thanksgiving!

I decided to buy myself a pair of bike shoes.  I am doing spinning classes 2x per week and I want to buy a road bike this spring to start doing triathlons next summer.  So, I go to Scheel’s.  Here is my conversation with the sales guy:

Me:  What’s the largest size women’s shoe you carry?
Him: Probably a 10.  What are you looking for?
Me:  Yeah, that’s what I thought. I need an 11 or 12.  I was kind of looking at these too (I point to a pair of men’s shoes.)
Him:  I was going to suggest looking at men’s shoes.
Me:  Well, half my shoes are men’s shoes, including my running and golf shoes.  So, do you have these in a 10 or 10.5?
Him: Let me go look.

A few minutes pass by.  He comes back with a box.

Him: (He opens the box.) Huh, these are silver, not black, but they are the same shoe.
Me: OK, I don’t care about the color.  (I grab the shoe and put it on.)  No, My big toe and the toe next to it are rubbing on the end.  That’s weird because usually a men’s 10 fits me perfectly.
Him:  Well you haven’t tightened them yet.  (So I tighten them.)
Me:  No, I can’t wear these, they will bruise my toe.
Him:  Well, sorry, we don’t have these in any other sizes.
Me: OK - thanks.  Bye.

As I’m driving home, I think to myself that although I am NOT a salesperson, I would’ve at least offered some suggestions.  Like, we don’t have these shoes in your size, but we do have these over here.  Or something.

But then it occured to me.  Those shoes were silver and fit me exactly like a women’s 10.  DOH!  The guy brought me a women’s 10.

So, this afternoon, I’m going to an actual bike shop rather than a sporting goods store.

Victory over the candy jar!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I haven’t eaten any candy all week.  I am so frickin proud of myself right now.  I was in a meeting today and a few women were passing around the candy jar.  I just passed it right on!!!
No Candy

I weigh in at Weight Watchers tomorrow morning.  I really don’t feel any thinner.  I didn’t last week either and I weighed in exactly the same.  :(   I guess I can be proud that I didn’t eat any candy all week and found other ways to satisfy my sweet tooth.
