I can’t find cycling shoes!

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

UUUgh.  Well, I went to a cycling shop on Saturday and of course they didn’t have any shoes that fit me.  I shouldn’t say that - there was one pair, but they were $130, not including cleats.  Those cost more than my running shoes, and running shoes are about the only shoes I’ll spend more than $75 on.  Otherwise $75 is my limit.  So, I’ve been shopping around online and I haven’t really found any decent sites that carry my size.  WTF?  I found a pair on eBay, and I lost the bid in the last few hours.  Oh well.

Here is my plan for this week:
1.  A bowl of All Bran EVERY day.
2.  Veggies EVERY day.

    Mon

Run 20 min
Step class
Weights

    Tues

Run 20 min
Pilates

    Wed

Run 20 min
Spinning

    Thur

Some sort of movement, not sure what yet.  I’m going to wait to see how my body feels.  This is only week #2 of amping up my exercise routine.

    Fri

Would usually be spinning then weights, but I am going to see Chelsea Handler perform live, so I won’t have time to workout after work.  I will need to make this up on Sat which was a planned OFF day.

    Sat

Spinning
Weights

I am finally to the point where I am not completely drained after working out, so I am really trying to work harder during my workouts.  My boyfriend even commented on how hard my bum is getting!

I am so excited to see Chelsea!!!

Happy Saturday!

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

I lost 3.8 pounds this week!!!!!  :) :) :) :) :)   I have 6 pounds to go til I’m back to my WW goal and 11 to go til I’m at my personal goal.  I wanted to do it by Christmas, but I think I can do it before Thanksgiving!

I decided to buy myself a pair of bike shoes.  I am doing spinning classes 2x per week and I want to buy a road bike this spring to start doing triathlons next summer.  So, I go to Scheel’s.  Here is my conversation with the sales guy:

Me:  What’s the largest size women’s shoe you carry?
Him: Probably a 10.  What are you looking for?
Me:  Yeah, that’s what I thought. I need an 11 or 12.  I was kind of looking at these too (I point to a pair of men’s shoes.)
Him:  I was going to suggest looking at men’s shoes.
Me:  Well, half my shoes are men’s shoes, including my running and golf shoes.  So, do you have these in a 10 or 10.5?
Him: Let me go look.

A few minutes pass by.  He comes back with a box.

Him: (He opens the box.) Huh, these are silver, not black, but they are the same shoe.
Me: OK, I don’t care about the color.  (I grab the shoe and put it on.)  No, My big toe and the toe next to it are rubbing on the end.  That’s weird because usually a men’s 10 fits me perfectly.
Him:  Well you haven’t tightened them yet.  (So I tighten them.)
Me:  No, I can’t wear these, they will bruise my toe.
Him:  Well, sorry, we don’t have these in any other sizes.
Me: OK - thanks.  Bye.

As I’m driving home, I think to myself that although I am NOT a salesperson, I would’ve at least offered some suggestions.  Like, we don’t have these shoes in your size, but we do have these over here.  Or something.

But then it occured to me.  Those shoes were silver and fit me exactly like a women’s 10.  DOH!  The guy brought me a women’s 10.

So, this afternoon, I’m going to an actual bike shop rather than a sporting goods store.

Victory over the candy jar!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I haven’t eaten any candy all week.  I am so frickin proud of myself right now.  I was in a meeting today and a few women were passing around the candy jar.  I just passed it right on!!!
No Candy

I weigh in at Weight Watchers tomorrow morning.  I really don’t feel any thinner.  I didn’t last week either and I weighed in exactly the same.  :(   I guess I can be proud that I didn’t eat any candy all week and found other ways to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I can do anything for a day…

Monday, October 15th, 2007

…so I won’t eat any chocolate today.

I am going in to work a little late today because I have allergy testing.  So, I only have to make it 5 hours to avoid the two desks right next to mine with candy bowls!  Someone posted to one of my previous blogs to put some nuts next to my new fruit bowl on my desk.  Today, I am bringing lots of fruit with me to work, along with macadamias, cashews, and almonds.

I really hate this time of year.  Holiday weight gain completely begins the beginning of October when everyone eats candy!

My plan - when I decide I want chocolate, I am going to eat grapes.  I ate some yesterday when I had a sweets craving, and it worked.

Tonight I am going to step class, then doing legs afterwards.

DOMS…

Yowza!!!

What a great way to start the weekend…

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I just got back from my Body Pump class at Gold’s.  I haven’t really lifted weights in probably 2 or 3 months.  I hyper-extended my knee, and I was too afraid of making it worse.  I work with a lot of people who are in health care (I do IT for health care) and they all cautioned me not to make it worse… or surgery!  So, I’ve wussed out the last few months.  I have to say, it felt awesome to lift again!!!

Tomorrow morning I am going golfing with a friend.  It looks like it will be a balmy 60 deg F.  This is nice compared to the 40’s and 50’s we’ve been having!  I will probably be so sore from lifting today that I won’t do very well on the course.  Oh well, it’s just for fun!  We’ll probably get carts.  When I golf in my league or by myself, I walk since it is awesome exercise.  But, not everyone likes to walk.

After I’m done golfing, I haven’t decided what I will do yet.  Maybe I’ll take some time and veg out.  Oh yah, I weighed in at Weight Watchers today.  I am exactly the same.  I worked my ass off this week, but I thik it just evened out all the crap I ate last weekend.  (I had ice cream and pizza.  My two favorites.)  This week, I am going to work my ass off and eat very well.  It’s so tough because the two girls who sit RIGHT next to me have candy jars on their desks.  I need to just forget they are there.  I should start a fruit bowl on my desk.  Oooooooooh, yes!!!  I will put enough fruit in there for the entire week.  Yup Yup Yup!  Apples, Bananas, Grapes, what else?  I don’t like oranges… they take too much work to eat.  I LOVE IT!!!

Welcome back to me!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Wow!  I haven’t been here in almost two months!  I guess things have been crazier than I thought.  Let’s see….

First of all, I’ve started going to Weight Watchers meetings again.  I quit going a long time ago about 6 months after I made lifetime.  I was working on my Master’s degree and just couldn’t fit ONE MORE thing in my schedule.  Well, now I’m back.  I am a lifetime member, so I only have to go once a month, but I am planning to go each Friday at lunch at least until the rest of the year.  I promised that to my sister who is also doing WW and needs support.

I successfully started running again.  I had bunion surgery on both feet last winter.  I quit running in 2004 because the pain was getting way too bad and I was constantly in pain.  Now, with my new feet, new prescription orthotics, and new running shoes, I am finally able to run again.  Right now, I am running about 11 minute miles which is faster than I ever have been.  Before my bunion surgery, I couldn’t run an entire mile without walking, so I was at about 13-14 minute miles.  I am excited to do my first 5k next spring!  The quickest I’ve ever run one is 36 minutes.  I think I just might be able to break 30 minutes!!!

I also decided to invest in a decent road bike.  I love doing triathlons and want to start doing more.  I told my BF that the ultimate goal would be to complete an Iron Man when I’m 40.  That gives me 10 years to train!  I guess I would be happy with completing a 1/2 IM, but the full would be awesome!  Anyway, I am going to get myself a good pair of bike shoes now.  I can wear them to spin class (which I absolutely LOVE).  I am going to wait til the Christmas specials start and get my bike then.  I am so thankful for my BF, who is a former at ecompetitive biker.  He has taught me so much on what to look for in a bike!

What else????  Oh, when I was on the treadmill yesterday, I had to keep hiking up my sweat pants.  They haven’t done that in a really long time!  That makes me feel awesome!!!
