Flipping Progress Photos
Does It Bother Anybody Else?
Sometimes don’t you wish there was a special place for those BodySpacers who like to repost their progress photos, day after day, hour after hour, minute after minute. I’ve come to learn there is even a term for this – flipping photos!
When two or 3 guys (or 5 or 10) post their photos over and over and over, it makes it hard to weed through the first couple of pages of “flipped photos” to find the photos that were posted ONE time of a guy who really made some serious progress and should be recognized for it.
I thought BodySpace was for helping and motivating each other to be our personal best. But, what is appears to be for a few is a hotly contested popularity contest which if often NOT won by the person with the best physique or the greatest progress, rather is it won by the person who reposted – flipped – their photos the most or posted the most provocative photos.
It’s interesting to watch someone repost their photos for several days – they make it to the top 6 and they stop flipping photos – then when their numbers start to drop, they start posting the same old profile and progress photos again. I frankly get tired of the seeing the same guys on there all the time. I mean, once you had your shot at it, give someone else a chance! Bow out gracefully, not pathetically. You sure don’t want to ask anybody about it – they get very defensive.
I will encourage, compliment and motivate anyone who has shown some determination to reach a goal or is making progress – I will not, on the other hand, feed your ego. Put the popularity contest somewhere at the bottom of the page and give prominence to those demonstrating real progress.
As always, this is just my opinion and you are welcome to share yours, as well! ~Ray

There is a great song out there by Bowling for Soup called ‘High School Never Ends’. Having celebrated my 20th reunion last year I have to say, it doesn’t, and BodySpace is an example.
Life is just a popularity contest, we all fit into it in different ways.

It’s funny, I just showed my boyfriend this blog & we both agree, it’s kinda true what you say…..but i find myself FLIPPING pics of myself to get everyone to visit my sight…..LOL….i realize that in order for new people to visit your sight & make comments about your progress they need to "see" you……I do see what you mean though, point is well taken. I don’t know if I will stop flipping photos though…haha…..after all I visited your sight because of a pic i saw of you! Erica;0)

Well said. Unfortunately, the sport/lifestyle that is fitness will always attract those who are here for the before mentioned ‘ego feeding’. Let’s be honest, it definitely feels nice to be in shape and to be recognized for it, but for some that turns into an addiction that disguises a deeper issue they have with themselves.

i think this is most annoying in the progress pics department. a progress pic should be posted once, because its obviously not progress in either direction if its the same pic!

I’m relatively new to this site, I came here looking for inspiration and motivation, and all I see on the main page is girls with there panties half way down and butt/crotch shots. And there always the same! It takes me forever to find someone who truly has made progress, and has the pictures to show for it.

Keeping it real…I like that!

Agreed…to a certain extent.
I’ve been on here about 6 months now and enjoy reading what I can find about others success stories, strategies, etc. However, it has been very difficult for me to make any friends! I’ve had a few blog that just died out because nobody would ever post about my progress.
If throwing up a bunch of progress pics is what you need to do to get input from others, then thats cool with me. (not saying I do at all but just saying I understand). However, like you said, "flipping pics" and using other lame tactics just to get yourself to #1 and stay there is pretty sad when you start to think about it. Its hard for me to take their comments to heart also…

Yes I agree with you, but the hard truth like Bliz said is that if you want more people to see you and give you comments you gotta keep your profile up there. I don’t have time to take new photos all day ya know. But I think this site being in the "beta" stage should maybe address it some how. Maybe putting a new section for photos never posted before, ya know.

Well Dang!…Is that what I have to do to be in the top 6….:)… I’ll have to get right on that…I keep flipping my picture, but when you only have one…I guess no one notices! My bad….

Well said! I’ve never understood the posting of progress pictures on consecutive days. How would you notice what changed? Use the thumbnail gallery and leave specific pictures for the progress section that actually have relevance over a reasonable time frame.

hum… it is so easy for the guys to code it into the system to keep from posting a limited number of photos per x hours.. i wonder why they don’t do it.. i guess the popular folks would complain..
