Personal Trainer Legislation in CA
Personal trainer bill advancing

SACRAMENTO – Personal trainers would have to meet certain standards in California under a bill approved by the state Senate.
Sen. Ron Calderon, D-Monterey Park, says some trainers have little more than a weekend class before they are allowed to work with customers.
His bill would require personal trainers to have a bachelor’s degree in a related field or be certified by a nationally accredited program.

I wish that more jurisdictions would follow this path. Too often have I seen personal trainers who are giving training advice that is completely inappropriate for the client. Having trainers who are incompetent does not look well on the industry and it only makes sense that if you want to teach someone then you should at least be able to show that you but some work into learning the subject yourself.

We’ll see what this is about … I do tend to agree that it would be good to have some kind of oversight because I have seen trainers collecting checks from introducing people to new ways to hurt themselves.
The only thing that I am wondering if this is perhaps the result of a special interest attempting to limit the trade or boost the sales of a particular course/program.
Arnold vetoed a similar bill in ‘05.
According to how this is written, Our beloved "govinator" and Jack O’Lane would not have qualified to be Trainers.
