Heather Green’s Thoughts On Pittsburgh

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

bbcom_developer

I received this email from IFBB Pro Figure Competitor Heather Green yesterday, and am reposting it here, with permission, for your reading pleasure.  Enjoy!

"Hi Richard,

Thanks for the congratulations, I had a really great time in Pittsburgh!  Everyone was very accommodating and the show was well organized so things ran smoothly which I always appreciate.

The callouts at prejudging were a bit confusing for me, and I walked out of there not knowing at all where I had placed.  I was really psyched to learn later that I placed 6th.  In my opinion the competition was extremely tough and the element of mystery that came along with "the letter" had a lot of us guessing.  I tried to keep it soft for this show, and I could only chuckle when I got the feedback from the judges.  "Your legs were a little too soft.  Just tighten up a bit…"

I think they know what they’re looking for, I just may have a hard time finding the balance.  I’ve got Mike Davies helping me prepare for the California Pro in a few weeks and I’m confident he’ll bring me in with the right combination.

Thanks, have a great night!”  Smiley

2008 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Figure Update

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Nicole Wilkins

We just arrived in PA last night and are settled into our room.  Alan and I drove since it is only about five hours from Detroit.  I relaxed last night and today before I go conveniently across the street to the venue for our athletes meeting at 5pm.  There are around 20 girls in the IFBB Pro Figure line up, so it will be great competition!

Some of the girls I met at the Arnold this year, but it looks like a few new faces are going to be here too.  I feel good about what I am bringing to the stage.  I’ve worked really hard and feel like this is the best I’ve ever looked.  Hopefully the judges feel the same.  Smiley

Wish me luck!

Amy Peters: Pittsburgh Pro Thoughts!

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

Pro Princess

Hey Bodybuilding.com,

I wanted to catch up with you after this past weekend in Pittsburgh! It was a very exciting show and was one of the hardest line-ups. The stage was stacked with 30 competitors, all bringing their best. The show was organized, very well run and started on time.

I was so excited to get a top 6 call out in both one and two piece! I ended up in 6th place, my best pro placing yet! I was very happy with my placing but only to work harder to make my way to the top 5 this year!  This is a great start to a great year.

Thanks to Zena C. and Natalie B. for the sweet comments and for mentioning me!

Sonia’s Thoughts On Pittsburgh Pro!

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

bbcom_developer

I received this email from IFBB Figure Pro Sonia Adcock this morning with a few thoughts from her regarding her recent win at the 2007 IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Figure.  I’m posting it here with her permission:

"What can I say, I feel very honored for my placing at the Pittsburgh Pro.  It was an amazing feeling to have had my name called for the win - I’m still on cloud nine!  My dream truly became my reality.

It was an amazing weekend, with everybody at their peak condition ready to rock the stage. The energy was great backstage and on stage.  It was a well-run show, as everything ran smoothly. Even the weather was great, and Pittsburgh (Oakland) was absolutely beautiful!"

Thanks,

IFBB Pro-Figure

My Thoughts: IFBB Pittsburgh Pro Figure

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

mizfit28

Here are my thoughts on my second Pro Figure experience (the 2006 Europa Pro Figure being the first):

Thursday:  Upon arriving in Pittsburgh for the contest, I had just told myself that I wanted to be better than I was at my last show.  I knew there were 30 girls this time, and that right there was going to make it an interesting show with all the names as well that had signed up to compete.

Friday: The next day came quickly and before I knew it, me and my boyfriend (NPC Heavyweight competitor Darrell Terrell) were headed to the competitors’ meeting…  The show started at 6:00 p.m. and all of us ladies are backstage getting ready.  Seeing the likes of Zena Collins, Amy Peters, and Sonia Adcock (to name a few) really got me excited to get on stage!  It was a tough show and the callouts were definitely leaving competitors wondering where they stood come Saturday for the finals.

Saturday: By Saturday night finals, and by the look of the line for tickets to the show, it looked as if it was going to be a packed house - and it certainly ended up being just that - especially with Ronnie Coleman, Victor Martinez, and Gunter Schlierkamp (to name a few) there signing autographs for the fans!  Before the night was over, I’d placed 10th in my second Pro show, up 15 places from my last show (the ‘06 Europa, where I placed 25th)!  I liked the way I looked, but I’m still wanting to get better.

Congrats to the Pittsburgh Pro Figure Top Finalist, Sonia!  My next stop will be the 2007 Houston Pro, and then on to the 2007 Europa to compete in front of my hometown fans - hopefully getting a Figure Olympia qualification!  Until then, every day counts…

My Thoughts On The ‘07 NPC Pittsburgh

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

mjfigure

I had a great experience this past weekend at the 2007 NPC Pittsburgh Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championships.  I took third place.  My goal was to be in the top five, so I was happy with my placing. I wasn’t real happy with my posing after seeing pictures, though.  I didn’t pull out my lats as much as I know I can.  Practice, practice, practice!!!

I intend to come in leaner for Junior Nationals in June and then we’ll see what happens from there!  :-)

Zena Collins: Pittsburgh Pro In Hindsight

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

bbcom_developer

You know, we often hear about the success stories from those that take first, second, or third place at a major IFBB contest, but rarely do we get to pick the brains of those IFBB Pro athletes who place further down in the ranks…  It’s refreshing, therefore, to hear this honest viewpoint from IFBB Figure Pro, Zena Collins on what went wrong last Saturday…

"Thoughts?  Hmm, well… Obviously I didn’t do well. My feedback was that I was too small and need to be tighter.  So, I will take some time off to put on some quality muscle that I have lost.  George Farah will be helping me with my next contest prep, so I am looking forward to that.

The line-up was surprising, not just to me, but other girls as well.  They all looked great, but it was just strange after seeing the prejudging call outs. I thought Amy Peters would have placed higher, as well as Shannon Meteraud.  But it’s always nice to get a surprise.

I haven’t decided which show to do next, but will enjoy some of this summer and my family and will choose a later show and pray that hurricane season isn’t too rough this year! I feel with George helping me, that I will be in better conditioning and will be dialed in properly… we shall see!"

Thank you,
z

Zena Collins: Pittsburgh Pro Pre-Judging

Monday, May 7th, 2007

bbcom_developer

I got this feedback from IFBB Figure Pro, Zena Collins, late Friday night after Friday’s prejudging, and I’m posting it here (belatedly) on her behalf with permission:

"Hey, prejudging is over… I’m disappointed in my call outs, but I am happy for Shannon.  I am not sure how everyone looked or how I looked in comparison without seeing photos. Everyone looks different backstage than they do on stage… seemed like they went for a harder, more jacked look - which for me sends a confusing message… could be who is sponsored with whom?  Could be they knew what they wanted and I didnt fit that image! Ha…

Anyways, I am pigging out on pizza and ice cream so I wont be looking that great tomorrow night, but will be cheering on my husband who is competing in the NPC Pittsburgh bodybuilding open… I think I will be taking a break after this show and focus on the Zena Collins Gold Cup which is on October 27th this year!!!

Thanks for your email… I will email you the results tomorrow, but you will probably have them before me!"

Ohhhhh, what a night…

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

deanna7272

When I first was asked to write a blog about the Pittsburgh Pro Show, May 5th, 2007, I wasn’t quite sure what to write or HOW to write it.  After taking pics and notes during the show, I decided that I am going to give you an outlook of the show, in general.  Now, this is coming from someone that has loved the sport for years, took a training hiatus due to a couple surgeries, and I am now looking forward to doing a figure competition in 2008.  I will tell you about the show, from my eyes.

First of all, let me start by saying that I have been to a few shows in the past, but this one was extraordinary, and you will learn why soon.  There was SO much energy in the atmosphere, the people were buzzing around trying to take in all the "sights" before the competition began.  There were people from all walks of life, competitors, athletes, the casual "weekend warriors", and the friends and family there to cheer their loved ones on.

The show began with the NPC fitness competitors… I admire their talent to such a degree, because I would be falling off the stage or tripping into the trophy table… LOL  Their routines are always upbeat and get you moving.  What a great job they did.  I was sitting about 6 rows back and to hear those girls hit the floor, wow… The teenage bodybuilding came after.  How cool is it that these kids are interested in transforming their bodies with weights, diet, and dedication.  There was a competitor that received an award for his achievement, he had suffered through many setbacks in life, SEVERAL surgeries as an infant, lost his lower left leg and lost 80% of the muscle in the right leg, wasn’t supposed to survive and IF he did should have been brain damaged, and there he was competing in bodybuilding!!!  AMAZING.  The show went of with some absolutely magnificent physiques (you can get the results on the site shortly)…  I don’t want to skip anyone or misspell a name, it’s very difficult to catch everyone’s name as they are called out.

The NPC open figure competition was next, and boy oh boy, the girls looked great.  I am a little biased because of my interest in the figure competitions, trying to learn as much as I can and network with as many people as I can to be successful.  The girls were beautiful, as usual, and I am telling you, it’s hard to sit in the crowd and pick and choose who’s going to come out on top.  The classes were tough, but once again, I think the crowd agreed on the selections.  It’s nice to see the girls come back from show to show improving their physiques and looking their best.

Now… The IFBB Pro Figure!!!!  OH MY GOODNESS…  Please excuse my emotion interjected here and there, but holy moly, I have NO IDEA how int he world you could pick a top 5 out of these competitors!!!!  They ALL looked PHENOMENAL… I sat in awe, trying to see exactly what the judges were seeing and trying to choose who would come out on top.  I know that they have already posted the results and once again, you can check them out in the blog post by Rich Barnet.  The ladies looked spectacular to say the least… I would NOT have wanted to choose out of that group.  Their beauty, physique, stage presence, and dedication is admirable and I hope to only be able to do a show and place, to be where they are in the industry is just . . . I can’t even think of a word to explain the feeling of accomplishment that they MUST feel….

They finished the NPC men’s open bodybuilding and they awarded Mr. Pittsburgh there also.  It is always a good time watching these massive physiques out there with their choreographed moves and routines that match their personalities.  Some walked out on stage and started to “bust a move”, some were posing “old school”, and some added gymnastics and strength moves that dropped jaws….  It’s a sight, if you have never been to a bodybuilding show, I highly recommend going, it is entertaining and motivating at the same time…

Now, I am going to tell you about the guest posing….  IT WAS ONE HELL OF A SHOW…  Jay Cutler, Victor Martinez, Ronnie Coleman, Phil Heath, Vince Taylor, Victor Konolav (IFBB Wheelchair Pro), Gustavo Badell, Dexter Jackson, and an addition Erik “The House” Fankhouser, an up and coming bodybuilder on his quest for his IFBB Pro Card, rounded out the evening….  Okay, they ROCKED the HOUSE!!!!  It was UNBELIEVABLE…  There was SO much muscle up on that stage you would have thought that it was the Olympia!!!!  They were signing autographs and taking pics with the fans all night and to get to see ALL of them up on stage was something that I don’t think any of us thought could happen in Pittsburgh, but they made it possible.  For $25.00 / $30.00, what more could you ask for???  After each had done their routine, they came out into the crowd and the crowd went NUTS…  They were going through the audience and people were taking snapshots left and right (I was one of them…lol)…

PICT0721.JPG

The amount of muscle that was in that building was unbelievable.  In the words of someone that gets all nervous around the athletes… OH MY GOODNESS…  I couldn’t wait to get home and download my pics and go through each and every one of them, recalling the events of the evening.  I took the chance and drove to Pittsburgh by myself, never being in town alone, got lost getting to the auditorium AND leaving, but IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!  I am still babbling to all my friends (MOST of which couldn’t care less about bodybuilding, figure, or fitness) and they are tired of hearing about it, but I am COMPLETELY motivated by the events of the evening and can’t wait for the next show…
