All I can say is WOW!! What a great show the 2007 North Americans was. I just want to thank the NPC and the crew that put the show on, it ran great. Anything the athletes wanted, we got. We could not have been treated any better, top notch, first class show. This show had great quality and quantity of athletes in all the classes.
I am still on a high from winning the show and have been nonstop since the show has been over. Only good things have came from winning and it is only getting better. I am very excited to step up to the pro level and am proud to represent bodybuilding the hardest and most exciting sport.
Only time will tell what the future will bring, but I am sure it will bring excitement and smiles to many faces. I am going to be guest posing at the WV state bodybuilding/Mid Atlantic bodybuilding show on the 22nd of September in Glendale, WV at John Marshal High School.
Come down to see the Newest IFBB Pro rock the stage. For info on the show go to:

Also, I am going to be live on MD No Bull Radio on Monday, September 10th at 8:15 PM EST:

One year ago, I spoke of the ‘agony of defeat’. Today, I celebrate the ‘thrill of victory’. Whoa! Last week I was on stage competing in the 2007 IFBB North American Figure Championships.
This dream was shattered last year by a most unfortunate injury that abruptly ended my 2007 competition season just 2 days before the ’06 show. This dream was materialized in ’07, earlier than the communicated projection of ‘08 by esteemed medical professionals.
Unlike my other competitions, I trained and dieted for this one. Yes, I did more than 4 weeks of muscle sculpting along with a moderate fat and carbohydrate consumption regimen. I trained LESS than ever in my history of training– particularly considering the proximity of a national level, pro qualifying event & undergoing a major sustained injury. But, I was deliberate in all my actions. The average 45-60 min. training sessions seemed fruitless. My workouts had no cardio recommended. Ab work was shunned until 2 wks prior to the show. Still, as the competition date neared, it was only “optional.”
Debra, IFBB Pro Natalie Benson, and DawnMelanie: Don’t Mess with Texas!
Everyone had an opinion of what was best to rehab my knee - how to effectively eat and train to gain symmetry and size. I did too. Thankfully, I took a chance to believe in the experience of a BodySpace member who believed in me. I became “Grasshopper” to BodySpace member ‘sweldup’ aka Nairo.
 BodySpacers Deanna7272 & DawnMelanie @ ‘07 North American show.
Although his methodology seemed unorthodox relative to everything I had personally tried, I agreed to train methodically as prescribed for symmetry. My 16 wks decision was made and publicly announced on May 3, 2007. I posted progress pictures and quickly established a “fan base” that claimed I was ready. NOT! Pictures may ‘lie’, but measurements documented an irrefutable disparity of muscle symmetry. Muscle atrophy claimed almost 2 inches of muscle on my left quad and 1 inch on my right – the non-afflicted leg.
 My Two-Piece @ 2007 North Americans.
Within four weeks, my hubby feared my becoming too lean too quickly – 3 months left to showtime. Within 8 weeks into the program, we jokingly considered entering a trail run contest, scheduled 2 weeks later. That 10th week, I claimed 3rd place at the ’07 John Sherman Classic, just 20 hours after removal of 32 stitches in my already injured leg. In 16 weeks, I had re-gained 2 inches of leg muscle and stood on a national figure stage again.
 My One-Piece @ 2007 North Americans.
March 2007, I declared that “It Takes 9 Months to Grow a Baby!” My top 15 finish confirmed my rehab was sufficient to competitively compete on a national figure stage. And I thank all of my support, particularly the many fellow BodySpacers, many of whom offered unending support and positive energy to fuel my kick a$$ attitude. A few, no where close to all include the following in almost no real particular order:
- Sweldup (psssst, I hate deadlifts)
- Deanna7272 (best wishes in April ’08)
- BMT424 (18 mins of cardio? Slacker!!!)
- BahamaMan (indomitable spirit)
- KatNap (Igor appreciates your get-well advice)
- Earl360 (O.G. – the original gator)
- kinkoshai (#1)
- bodyauditor (lost soul mate of the past)
- yettamae (shoulders for legs barter)
- williemina (N.Am ’08?)
What’s next?!?! Whatever it is – it will be injury-free {lol}. See you all in 2008! *smile*

FROM THE GATE, let me thank a few people first who made this possible, fun and kept me motivated throughout the entire time…
Dave and Colette for believing in me, watching my transition thru the entire time and being pleased at what they saw came show time… Hey Colette, hope that routine was good enough, LOL
Jeff Dewelle for helping me polish up my posing during this Vision Quest, I appreciate ‘cha, bro, and your many tex’s of encouragement…
Natalie and I have a rule in our house, we GO ALL OUT in our preparation, we DON’T go to shows for nothing and WE out to bring something back and if we don’t get what we deserve, then our other gratification is knowing PICTURES DON’T LIE!

THE NORTH AMERICAN was a great show this year - the biggest to date coming from promoter Gary Udit. I went into the show NOT nervous and VERY confident about my look and assistance I’d gotten this year. I had heard all day long that whoever wins the Heavyweight class takes the whole show… Erik has a good physique but still needs time to become the TOTAL PACKAGE, so I KNEW it was going to be between he and I, but I still thought I’d bested him that day and as it turned out he walks away the winner.
As many saw that day, I still raised his hand out of respect and enjoyed the battle - we’ll meet again! Now on to the Nationals in Dallas in November, no time to get bent out of shape, but to better my shape so I can put this 12 straight years of competing on the NPC national level behind me and join my other brothers on the Next Level…
The best is yet to come out of me, but NOT before you see my princess bring the pain at this year’s Figure Olympia! 3 weeks to go and stay tuned…
Darrell

I have been overjoyed for days now for my husband, Mike Horn, who won the Overall Masters title at the IFBB North American Championships this past weekend. He is the one who inspired me to start competing. I cannot thank him enough for all his has done for me (I am so in love with him)!
He is always there for me helping me with my food, training, suits, posing, etc. With us it has been sort of like a team sport. I also help coach him at times. Over the years we have kept each other going. I am not sure if ever seriously thought of doing a national show until I did the NPC Fitness Nationals in 1998.
My mom, Diana Sewell (www.dianesewell.com), was also a big help. She is an inspiration. She is a very positive person and is a personal coach herself. She did her first NPC figure show in Mobile, Alabama on May 20, 2007 and won the Over 50 division at the NPC Steel World Bodybuilding Fitness & Figure Championships. I am proud of her.
IFBB Pro Mike Horn and I will be holding a BODYBUILDING, FITNESS, AND FIGURE WORKSHOP on SATURDAY, OCT. 20, 2007. RESERVE YOUR SPOT NOW call 251-634-8885. We will go over training, posing, supplements, tanning, suits, nutrition, etc. Deposit required. Contests are won in the off season. Bring suits, trunks, jewelry, shoes to sell or swap. Alabama had the most athletes present ever at this national show. Kim Bergman, Stacy Seals (7th Open Light Heavy), Robert Calin (Top 10 Open Heavy), Moris Pruett and Ron Wedgeworth (Top 10 in Masters Middle), and Mike & I. It was great to have a bunch a friends there from our state. Big thanks to Robert, Kym, Kelly and her daughter. I know they’re busy with their own family and you took time to help us with our son, Steel, at the show.
I respect all the athletes who live the life. I was good to see friends like Jennifer Myer again. Toni Hatcher looked good, too. We ran into Ann Pratt and her husband again and he always has feedback. I did not even get a chance to say ‘hi’ to Lois Powell and others - there were so many people backstage and it ran really fast!
Debbie Judy is always trying to help people out backstage. Bree Marsh & Olga Barthlett got to celebrate doing their first national show. I was nice to meet new friends, too, like Mo from SC and Jude Clark. Nancy Georges looked good. I wish her all the best.
I have so many people to thank including my workout partner, Alisa Kowitz. I would also like to thank the trainers who work for us, Annette, Dawn, Michelle, Brad, Jennifer, and Dennis, for taking care of the gym while we were gone - they all compete too. Thank you all for your support, kind words, and encouragement!
I would also like to thank all the judges who give of their time and talents. Thanks also to all the judges who gave me good suggestions including Jim Rockell and the judges at Physique Critique like Ropeman, Linda Hoyte Wood, Vicki Gates and Eric Hillman.

Well, I did not place at the North Americans, but I did have a good time, which was my main goal. As I predicted, I was smaller than the other girls, and after reviewing the first callouts, it looked as though the judges wanted a bigger and harder look for this competition.
I really liked my physique and feel like I presented it very well, but obviously the judges did not! I think the judging changes from show to show, so when it comes down to it, you really have to have the right look at the right time. Also, many of the girls who placed high have been doing national shows for a while, so maybe I just need to keep at it, and hopefully will get recognized next year.

In the off-season, I plan on adding a little muscle to my frame, especially in my shoulders and hamstrings. I have been dieting for about five months this year, so I am so ready for some time off, but will continue to eat clean… just more! I hope I do not get the “post-competition blues” as I start gaining weight, which I must do in order to gain muscle!
Next year, I plan on starting the season with the Jr. USAs and then probably 1-2 more national shows. Congratulations to all the competitors and top placers, and especially to those who obtained a pro card, which I hope to do someday! Everyone was very nice and looked spectacular! Thanks to everyone who has posted good luck wishes for me and many sweet and motivating comments. This experience has just made me want to train harder, so I can come back full-throttle next year! Any feedback is much appreciated!

Just got back from the North Americans, my last show of the year and it was so cool! Being in a show open to Canada and Mexico was unlike any other National show I’ve ever competed in.
Seeing team Mexico walking around in their nice WHITE warm up suits with the Mexican Flag on them made me feel like I was at the Olympics! I met some really sweet girls from Canada and hope to see them again next year. This show was by far the fastest run show I’ve ever been apart of. Figure was literally wrapped up by 8:30pm!!!! That was GREAT! It allowed me to sit back and enjoy the male bodybuilders portion of the show where as in the past I’m so exhausted I’m usually ready to go!
Gary Udit did a fantastic job and Rick Bayardi’s "A" team kept us all "in line" so to speak. Placing 7th in the open and 2nd in the Masters was a great way for me to end my 2007 season. I’ve got my plan of attack for 2008 and it will all begin at Jr. Nationals… man do I love the off season!
Cheers,
Holly

I never trained harder in my life than I did this year! I never gave up and had incredible support from my wife & son. George Farah did my diet again and dialed me into shredded condition with fullness! My posing routine was done by Colette Nelson and music by Dave Palumbo. I had an all-star team behind me and it made a difference.
I will continue on to the IFBB pro ranks next year. George has already started mapping out my diet for next year. I will be bigger and fuller. I would like to thank Johnny Sanders, Anette Sanders & Sanders Engineering in Mobile, AL. I would not have competed and gotten my pro card if it were not for Johnny. You can never re-pay someone when they help you in crisis without asking for anything in return. That’s a good soul! That’s Johnny Sanders!

Words cannot describe how happy I feel right now! Only a few days ago I earned my IFBB Pro card by winning the Masters Overall at the North American Figure Championships. If I were to try to put it in words, it would not come across at all. Excited, ecstatic, blissful, peaceful, centered, happy, high, any word you can pick will not describe the joy and feeling of accomplishment from having sought after a goal and conquered it. The closest I can come to describing this feeling is synchronicity. Everything as difficult as my diet and training was, seemed to fall into place exactly as it needed to.
It was my birthday, and when I stepped onstage, I felt so happy and joyous. I was in the greatest shape of my entire life and that alone is a feeling that will make anyone shine onstage regardless of the outcome. The day seemed to last forever and it was so much fun. All the people in my life who were behind me backing me up and cheering for me and wanting me to win, that to me was more important than the win itself. To have other competitors who I was competing with in the same show, say I hope you win, was truly a humbling experience.
As I said before words cannot describe the feeling, all I can say is Saturday, September 1, 2007 so far was the greatest day of my life. Not just a victory conquering my body, but my personal life to be in balance at the same time. People that know me, know that I compete for personal growth, not just to grow my muscles but to grow my mind and my spirit. This to me is the greatest thing to have balance. To come home from a show and not have my life turned upside down, was probably a first for me. I came home to a clean house, my bills paid and my boyfriend, not mad at me. (You laugh, but this is a difficult thing to conquer.) Among other things I learned the true wonderful beautiful spirit of so many people that weekend. The whole arena was glowing with positive energy, we we not on an ego trip, we were all happy and joyful, that is the way it really should be. Everyone I came in contact with was authentic, from the first word out of their mouth to the last. This is a difficult business to be authentic in, and the experience I had this past weekend, gave me new hopes and dreams for us all as catapults to physical and emotional excellence.
Like I said, it was life changing and words cannot describe how happy I feel. I hope to keep on striving to excel and to proudly stand on stage in increasingly better and better competitive condition as an IFBB Figure Pro. I hope to have many, many more experiences like this past weekend. I believe that is what life is all about. We are all striving to be better and better so we can feel good and right now, I feel very good! Thank you everyone for all your positive thoughts and energy and for your support. I would not be where I am without all of you.

These shots are of NPC Competitor Darrell Terrell, one week out from the IFBB North Americans. Big D is ready to bring his best to the stage and he has the support of his Olympia qualified girlfriend, Natalie Benson. Will Natalie’s good luck rub off on DT? We’ll find out later this weekend…

I will say that this is the first National competition that you will see more Alabama competitors than ever before in a Pro qualifier.
My first choice is my wife Jan Horn in the figure “C” class, she is looking the best she has ever looked. We both dieted since January together and helped each other out tremendously!
Robert Calin from Mobile (my workout partner) will compete in the heavyweight open class. He will open eyes with his condition and thickness. Stacy Seals will attack the Lt. Heavy class and hope to see him in the overall with me. Ron Wedgeworth will come in shredded in the middle class with great symentary. Veteran Morris Pruitt can never be counted out as he trains champions so I know he will look like one.
Kim Bergman will represent Alabama women’s bodybuilding and I wish her well. Last but not least from Texas, Daryl Jones will come in the Masters looking for his pro card and he is no joke! He will be my biggest competition.
Thanks again,
Mike Horn
