I was at the show on may 9. For the life of me can’t figure out how Dondi Oneal did not take first place..I was surprised by the judges. Left there in disbelief . It was very disappointing. Poor Judging.

Perhaps you are used to judging at NPC shows, or other organizations that prefer a muscular look for fitness. Dondi would have most likely won at an NPC show where muscularity trumps anything else. One of the things that was stressed to the judges was to follow the judging standards that OCB has established - that Ms. Fitness should have "good to excellent muscle tone with clean, tight lines and appear to have reasonable levels of body fat, not the muscle mass, ripped to the bone, striated look, or vascularity of a bodybuilder" (taken from their website)… Dondi had good muscle maturity and her routine was dynamic, but she also didn’t hold her strength moves, nor get all the way down in her splits while Kristen did. Dondi probably would have done great in figure given her physique. If you look at the Ms Fitness website you will also see that many of the women (including Ms. Fitness World) do not have the level of muscle development that Dondi has, they are less developed, but still with clean lines. I believe there was only one judge who scored Dondi’s routine higher, so it was nearly a unanimous decision that Kristen better fit the look for Ms. Fitness. But every organization is different… that’s the nature of this sport….

Maren got it correctly, Ms. Fitness strictly states that they do not want muscularity comparable to a bodybuilder and it will be scored down. Specifically Ms. Fitness is less muscular than even Figure is.
I know Dondi personally and she is a wonderful, positive, energetic, and passionate individual. She has been training for many years and presents exceptional muscle maturity. We had discussed the guidelines set forth by the Ms. Fitness camp, so she knew what they were looking for long before she sent in her entry form as being different than what she was going to present on stage.
I chose the best judges possible. After competing in natural bb/fig/fitness since 2004 I have formed some great relationships. My head judge is one of the most accurate judges in the OCB and I flew her down here from out of state. Another judge is Ms. Fitness Florida herself, Kelly Gould, and a top placing fitness competitor in Ms. Fitness and FAME nationally. All my judges were from out of town or out of state, except one. The judges did not judge anyone they knew personally. So no one could claim local politics or favoritism.
I am satisfied with the results. The show was a raging success! And I have gotten nothing but great feedback! Can’t wait to do it again!
Look for photos and the show write-up in the next issue of Fitness & Physique magazine coming out in the next month or so. http://www.theocbwebsite.com
