MMA: Gettin Back in Shape

I tore the pcl ligament in my knee in September ‘08 while training for my first MMA fight. Now, i feel that i am healthy enough to begin training again. Problem is im really out of shape from sitting on my ass and nursing my knee. It will be hard but i feel i can be ready by middle-late January. I am going to fight at 155 lbs which will cost me the loss of hard earned muscle, but i feel that it is worth it. I want to get my base weight to around 165-170 lbs. This means lots of circuit training and tons of abs on top of my MMA training haha. All the hard work will pay off though when i get my hand raised in the middle of the octagon

Ouch. So, did you have surgery?

I had major patella knee surgery too and am now just getting back in good shape for focus and life. But, I was doing serious MMA training and the only problem I had was taking really hard kicks to the knee. But, it had no effect on my ability to be a nightmare as a striker! Good luck bro.

nope the doctor said that surgery for torn pcl is unnecessary and just let it heal over time.

I have a feeling that your "out of shape" is better than most of our "in shapes" and that you’ll come back quickly now that you are able to get back into training. Best of luck with MMA - I know you’ve wanted this for some time and I’m sure it feels great to be working back towards your goal!
