Muscles are a good thing!

How do you explain to your significant other that working out/the gym is very important to you and  a good thing, especially in the long run? My girlfriend is an attractive woman and she is great but she doesn`t seem to get the whole fitness, athletic look thing. I`ll be honest. I find woman that work out and I mean work out, not just run on a treadmill, eliptical, or take jazzercise, to be very hot and not just physically. These people dedicate themselves to a task. That task is more of an internal motivation then the external. These woman want to look and feel better about themselves. They want to feel stronger, more confident, content and happy when they look in the mirror. I think alot of people feel this way,(men and women), but they are dong something about it. In their dedication, inner and outer strength , I find them more attractive then the "average" woman.  That is not a knock on women that don`t workout because a lot of women look fine the way they are and don`t feel that need to change their bodies. Nothing wrong with that. Its all about choice and priorities.
Anyway, I think that the female "gymrats" as I lovingly call them are great, but when trying to explain that muscle is a good thing on a woman to my girlfriend, I get comments like  "eeww!, why would  you want a woman to look like a man!" Mind you the pics I have shown her weren`t of heavyweight bodybuilders who  most ,in my opinion are very feminine, they were women on this very site that to me epitomize, strong, healthy, beautiful women. I do not see how a woman having a sexy pack of abs is in anyway "manly". What`s funny is my girl has serious feminist leanings and yet she makes a comment like that. She tells me that she isn`t against working out, but she thinks its an "unnatural" look for a woman and takes away a woman`s proper curves. To me, it only enhances them. The older you get, the more muslce tone you have, the less you sag. There are women on this site that are 39 and up and have bodies 20 somethings  and women their age can only dream of.  They put in the work and dedication, whether they enjoy it or not. They understand that its for their own betterment. To quote scholar, Paris Hilton " That`s Hot!"
The bottom line is I`m kind of tired of arguing the point with her. I`ll keep my going to my gym, to better myself and will always consider fit athletic looking women, in high regard.

Whats up Pony Boy I am on the other side of the scale. I Like a healthy fit women to a point but also I do feel that the softer gender should stay soft. I work very hard in the gym to get very hard. but I want my Wife to be plump in the right places. she does cardio at home to stay healthy and light ab exercises. But to each his own. Good to hear from you though, Take care.

posted a video called, "do muscles make a woman look manly?" for just this reason. I am 5′3" 120 lbs, not even close to man size. You keep doing what you love and dont let anyone change that.

Dude, I’m right there with you. Athletic woman have always been attractive to me, especially female body builders. Granted most of the pro-women have gotten a little to big for my tastes, but the fitness and figure competitors are some of the most desirable women on earth to me.

Besides, she’s less likely to die because of poor health, which means more time together ;)

I feel your pain man, me and my lady are going through the same issue. I grew up unhealthy, but I changed. I told her that there is noway I raise up a fam that way. Everytime she sees a fit person she is like ewww!!!!!! Like a really fat person is attractive. But she knows how I feel, and that I am sticking to a Healthy Life Style.
