Treadmill or Elliptical!?
I have bad knees well one more so than the other 9 times out of 10 just to being overweight and out of shape. My left knee is the worse, it’s not swollen but very sore to the point of sometimes being a bit painful. It doesn’t slow me down to much because I am very focused on keeping up with my at home circuit workouts to lose weight and what not. Which cardio equiment is better for knee problems? I am especially interested to get an answer because I am thinking about purchasing a piece of cardio equipment for my house. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

elliptical or a bike will be much lower impact than a treadmill……..

Elliptical, hands down.

actually they make cycles that you use your arms instead of your feet.. table top kind.. but if you can tolerate some motion on your legs, then the piece that will cause the least amount of impact would probably be the best.. light walking is ok I’m sure for you but would that be worth the purchase when you could save the walking for outdoors if it’s nice.. an elyptical or cross trainer which uses the arm handles will provide a great workout with little impact on your knees.. I watch what I do with my knees to and I love the cross trainer for getting my HR up without impact.. test out a few at the gym or at the gym equipment store to see if you can tolerate it, they aren’t cheap and it would be a shame to make a purchase only to have it sit there.. best of luck with your goals.. I love your determination.. keep it up!!!

hi
stay strong tough gal. I would suggest you see a doctor and may be he/she will list a few supplements you could take for joint health… and they really work if you have a good diet. Everybody has their own preferences so the best thing for you would be to try the elliptical for a week and compare results to a week of treadmill. If you have a good treadmill you can do so much more (like increase incline to reduce impact and work different part of the legs etc.) compared to an elliptical but again it boils down to what suits you and what your doctor or sports therapist suggests. Good luck eh.

i would say the elliptical, too (until your knee is no longer sore or swollen). it’s very low impact…just be careful with the intensity.
my kness are pretty creaky from old injuries. i also tore my acl and meniscus in july (didn’t have surgery…i just did physical therapy). the elliptical is perfect for me because sometimes the treadmill only aggravates my knees.
ray is right as well - check with your doctor and try a supplement. i started using a new joint support supplement about 3 weeks ago (move free advanced) that’s pretty good. it’s only 2 pills a day (as compared to others that have about 8+) and they have a 2 week guarantee. happy training!
