I had my own" Steve" moment during my first three races. The first was a 10K on 7/4. I ran the first 2 miles with a friend, then left him as we set off into the wind at the start of mile 3. "Steve" was drafting off another fellow, but when I passed him, he left the other guy and drafted off me. We went into the wind for 1+ miles, all the time he wa right on my shoulder. When we finally turn cross wind, he passes me, but I passed him back during the sixth mile and beat him.

The next 2 races I run he is there, during each he passed me during the race, and I passed him back and beat him. However, the last time I raced him, I passed him, he passed me back, I passed him again, and then saw a shadow creeping up on me with 250 meters to go. It was on, as we sprinted the last 250m, but I kept "steve", and his shadow from passing me.

You did great. Top out of 14 in your age group is fantastic. If you keep your diet in check during the summer you can reach all your goals. I definately think you can go sub40. Keep moving forwards and enjoy your journey.
