French fries and weight loss . . .

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

. . . don’t mix.  My latest readings on the scale reflect that obvious fact.  I had some fast food for lunch yesterday (am I allowed to admit that here or will I be banned?), with predictable results.  I also drank a lot of water after working out last night, so I think I’m feeling a bit of temporary bloat.  Here’s hoping for better results tomorrow.

Beer

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Had a beer and a good meal last night at a restaurant, so I felt a little more bloated this morning than I had hoped to, and it showed on the scale  — .6 pounds over my starting weight a few days ago. Not a big setback, but not exactly progress, either.

I need to make some progress over the next few days, because I know Thanksgiving is going to be a lost cause.

Where do I start?

Thursday, November 15th, 2007

Well, here goes.  I haven’t ever posted anything to a blog before.

I hope to use the Bodyspace page and blog as a source of discipline and inspiration to get myself in better shape and look better.  I also want to use strength training to get stronger and leaner for running, which is my primary interest.  I’m not running a lot right now because of an Achilles tendon injury, for which I’ve been undergoing physical therapy for a few weeks.

My goal is to lose ten pounds and significantly reduce body fat from around 21% (according to my scale, the accuracy of which makes me a little suspicious) to close to 12% (that seems ambitious).  At 162 I will be closer to my ideal weight for running, and at that weight I can concentrate on gaining muscle and strength rather than losing fat.

I also hope to gain some strength and improve benchmarks in lifting exercises like the squat, bench press, bicep curl, etc.

Welcome!
