Cardio gets the heart rate up and burns fat, carbs, and all that good stuff. It's hard to get the heart rate up lifting weights only. I like just lifting weights but I need to get my cardio up more to lose some extra pounds.

I can only tell you what I learned from experience, reading and of course my friends. Cardio requires energy and will tap into the fat (preferrably not muscle) to release the energy your body needs. That is why people that are overweight need to do alot more of it than people who are in great shape. I do a lot of cardio. I think for bodybuilders working out is weight training. Exercise is what people do to stay active. when your body is sore you know you worked it well and the muscles are having to recoup. Its a good thing. Ego affects weight training if you push yourself to fast and cause an injury. I am not building mass. I would recommend the Mass diet book you can download here at bb.com. It has some great tips for building mass. Weight loss is again diet, cardio, and weight training combined. Dont try to build mass and loss weight at the same time. they are opposite goals. Do one and then the other. Run faster? Talk to VTdad. Jumping I would recommend plyometrics. These are just my thoughts and are very brief.
