With Jenn Gates out this year, expect the Figure Olympia card to be bigger than ever before. One of those competitors that would like to make a name for herself this year is Meriza DeGuzman. In 2007, in her first Olympia and only her second contest as a pro, she was just happy to be on the biggest stage of them all. Two years later, that’s not the case. She is in it to make a statement. Judging by how 2009 has treated her so far, expect Meriza to do really well this weekend.

The reigning Ms. Figure Olympia Champ will NOT be back to defend her title this year. FLEXonline reports, “There will definitely be a new IFBB Figure Olympia champion in 2009, as we just received news from JM Manion and the IFBB Pro League confirming that Gates will be skipping this year’s Olympia.”

Jenn Gates will not be back to the Olympia stage next month.

It’s been a challenging year for the Figure Olympia champ but like all champions she’s a survivor and continues to bounce back. Jenn tells me she’ll share more information on her decision to skip the Olympia soon.

The top 6 at this year’s contest will certainly look different than last year. Earlier Zivile Raudoniene opted out of competing from this year’s Olympia and now the reigning champ. Who will be the new Ms. Figure Olympia champ? We’ll find out in a few weeks.

The Olympia is approaching rapidly and will be here before we know it, if you don’t have your plans ready to go then you better start planning now!
