Oletimer Has…well, Old Ways

I’ve been working on this old body for nearly 3 years now. Not much time, I know, but ya gotta start somewhere. I’ve got my gym set up in my unattached garage. The car doesn’t live there anymore..lol..Temperatures in the summer, like now, reach 100+ even with a fan on and the door open. Winter time, my kerosene heater will warm it up to a "toasty" 40 degrees when it’s really cold outside.

Some friends of mine have tried to get me to join the local "Y". Climate controlled and every piece of equipment and machine imaginable. A guy would be crazy not to workout there. But, alas, there is just something intangible about the old garage gym. Like a spouse that is sometimes hot and sometimes frigid, nevertheless, she’s mine and I can’t seem to forsake her for the comforts of a modern environment. I built her, and she’s always there for me. Maybe I’m sentimental. Maybe I’m just old, but that’s just me I guess.

Logging Diet…Eye Opener

I had always read that a serious bodybuilder should write down everything they consume to keep an accurate account of Cal., P, C, and F, but figured, I know what I’m eating. I recently started to do the logging and went into shock! No wonder my gains and BF losses had stalled. I was pretty close on protein, as that’s what I was concentrating on, but my carbs and fats were switched. I was 40% P, 20% carb, and 40% FAT!!!. Time to get on track and see what happens. Trying for a 40P, 40 carb, and 20% F. Total calories 1800-2000. That’s 200g of P, 200g of Carbs, and 45g of F. this a starting point and by keeping close accounts I hope to be able to make appropriate adjustments if problems still manifest.

School’s out and my grandson who just graduated and was All Conference Football and Baseball is now my steady workout partner. He "warms up" with what I max, but that’s ok. He finally understands the difference between being 18 and 62…I think..lol..but he is great in that I have a spotter and that helps me push a little higher without fear of becoming permanently  trapped with a bar across my chest.  I also push myself harder with him present.  Can’t let him think I’m a  total "wuss".. He’s even showing an interest in bodybuilding along with just power lifting.  I believe he would be a good one and starting young would be the best way…If you read my name in the  "obit column" soon, you’ll know I died in the gym…lol..At least he’ll make a good "Pall Bearer"..lol

OK I’ll do it!

My first comp will be at the end of Sept. I’ve got 100 days to reach a goal of 5 % BF. I’m currently at 176 lbs and 10%. I’m writing this to make a comittment. I have no idea what it will take, but I’m about to find out. Please pray for my wife and friends..lol

First Contest 116 days away..definite “maybe”..lol

I would love to "grow a pair" and get the courage to compete one time in just the Grandmasters Class (60+), but everytime I look at the contest pics around the area, I say, "Ain’t no way in hell I’m ever going to look good enough to stand beside those guys". I’m not fishing for "false compliments", I hate that insincere stuff. I’m too much of a realist to give myself a false positive attitude. But then I guess attitude is half the battle. I don’t expect a response to this pitiful blog. I’m just venting..without the bud light..lol
