My first contest, Mr. Natural Indiana, was a memorable experience. I competed only in the Grandmaster Division (50 & over), as I didn’t want to overload my circuits the first time out with crossovers into other divisions..
I placed 5th of 6 competitors and was quite pleased with my showing. I was as well prepared physically as I hoped for and my posing was as technically correct as I had practiced for hours previously. I have no excuses or regrets. I was beaten by better men. I posted a few contest pics. Check them out and judge for yourself.
I know I have much to work on and develop more mass in several areas. Maybe next spring or early summer, if I have improved, I will dare to compete again. It was fun and all the competitors were super ladies and gentlemen.
My hat is off to Jennifer and Jesse Dale, the contest promoters. Terrifically organized and run show.

Fri. the 11th begins the 14 day countdown to the Indy show on the 26th. The first 10 days I’ll spend on the beach in FL, hopefully getting some sun, never know about FL weather this time of year, doing a lot of beach type cardio, swimming, running, etc.
I’ll diet down to high protein 200g/day, low carbs, <50g./day, and +/- 40g. fat. Around 1400-1500cal/day. Hopefully I’ll be 98% of contest shape 4-5 days before show time. The remaining days I’ll attempt to dial in the water retention or depletion I need for a defined albeit solid look.
I’ll also be spending 1-2 hours a day perfecting my posing routine and mandatory mechanics. I might miss the optimum physique look from lack of experience and other unforseen physiological problems, but there would be no excuse for not properly executing the presentation necessary to present myself in the best way possible.
Nothing mind boggling about this blog; just something I was thinking about and thought I would share with someone(s) who might perchance be remotely interested.

I just received word that for my contest the 26th, I am the only Grandmaster 60+ entry, so I’ll be placed in the Masters 40+ division. That’s really ok by me. I would rather compete and get my butt kicked by better contestants than win in a division that I only won because I "outlived" everyone else and received a "participation award"…lol
I will also be "crossing over" into the Novice division. My butt will be so sore from the kicking…lol..Seriously, it should be an event to remember.
Thanks to all my bb cyber friends for your encouragement and kind words. They are most sincerely appreciated.

In three weeks I will step onto a high school auditorium stage for a first ever appearance in a bodybuilding competition. Three years ago I watched a show in Indy and made it my goal to work to see if I could shed 40 lbs, I was 215 then, and get in acceptable 62 year old shape. The first year went by and I said, no way. The second year went by and I still had appropriate reservations not to compete. Now ending the third year, I will anxiously give it a go. I ain’t gettin any younger..lol..
It’s been a sometimes painful, tearful, discouraging, this was a stupid idea journey. But has also been a journey of learning about myself and my potential to regain some semblance of fitness I once had years ago.
I’m almost sorry it’s coming to an end; at least this journey anyway. Soon all the anxieties and excitement will be over when the show closes. "That was it?" I’ll probably ask myself. Like a kid anticipating Christmas morning, it seems to take forever to arrive, and ends so quickly and finally. Nothing but a floor full of wrapping paper and disappointing gifts. I guess I’ll find out.
Of course I’m reaping the benefits of a new found physique, clean lifestyle, and new friends here on BB.com. My wife even thinks I’m sexy again..lol. And a few of my also out-of -shape baby boomers are beginning to start some fitness programs of their own. Maybe these are the true rewards. Of course they are! The coming contest is just a blip on the map of the ultimate journey through life. The journey doesn’t end in Indy in three weeks. It’s just a brief stop over. Another site to see and be remembered before life as I know it now ends.
If you actually read this through and understand what I said, write me and explain it to me…I’m not exactly sure…lol.. I started with one writing thought and then became existentially distracted and wound up totally lost in thought…The waning mind of a 62 year old..rotflmao!!!

I was just wondering why with so much emphasis is paced on "drug free, all natural bodybuilding" at the show everyone is dripping brown with unnatural tan in a bottle and it’s received as perfectly "natural"????
I’ve been experimenting with the stuff and you do get amazingly darker in a short time(hours), but it’s messy. It comes off on clothes and any fabric you come in contact with, runs and streaks if you get wet, washes down the drain if you bathe; well you get the idea. I think if you’re gonna be natural then be natural. But since no one cares what I think, this is my pseudo-natural plan for my upcoming show.
I’ll be doing the tanning bed tour as often as I can for the next two weeks, then a week on the beach in FL, then tanning bed again 2-3 days before the show. Maybe I can eliminate the "paint job" altogether. Just apply a little "all natural" PAM for sheen..lol
Oh by the way, the pics that I have posted are both natural suntan and then a couple layers of Pro Tan..Told you I was experimenting…lol

I justed post some new pics. As you can see I’m wearing the "speedo swim wear trunks". Does anyone think this is inappropriate for a contest? I think they look fine and I am more comfortable, especially at age 62, wearing these than the fashionable "slingshot" bikini string type that is worn today. What say, BB.com community?

The past 4 days I’ve been experimenting with Pro Tan. One coat a day and then take progress pics on the fourth day was the plan. Last nite at the football game I was in t-shirt and shorts. Second half began with a sky opening downpour. With no rain jacket or shelter, weather said 10% chance, I watched my watersoluble tan running down my arms and legs and dripping on the bleachers. Now I know how the "wicked witch of the west" felt when Dorothy threw the bucket of water on her…lol…"I’m melting"….

Since I am now 5 weeks out from my Indy contest, I decided to do a rehearsal week. I didn’t want to wait until the week before the show to find out what it’s all about. I had read and heard about "carb depletion" then "carb upping’ to help fill out for the show. Along with this came gallons of water.
It’s now been 5 days of depletion (less than 15G./day) and I really can’t tell much change. I’m a little hungry, but I just eat protein a little more often to solve that (180-200G/day). The first day of the heavy drinking (water) made me feel like a water balloon, but the next day my body started getting rid of it. I dropped a couple pounds, but my energy level has been pretty much the same even with an increase of 30 to 45 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, up from 2-3 days previously.
My wife asked me, "When are you going to be grouchy?" I replied, "When ever you want me to dear."..lol..No problem there either. I retained my old lovable, even keel, personality all week. Actually, I’m ready for the show right now! I’m experimenting with Pro Tan in different layers to see what that is like as well. I only had 1 layer applied in my last set of pics.
I’ll post some 5 week out pics this weekend to see if there is any noticeable difference since I posted the 12 week pics.

Have you read the latest of media scare tactic? Flip flops, you know, those foamy things that we wear on our feet in the summer, are potential deadly harbors of germs. Well big "DUH! Of course they are and so is going barefoot, sandals, touching public facilities with bare hands, handling currency, and a myriad of other things we could think of. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had a big recall on flip flops! TV lawyers will be saying, "Has anyone you’ve known been sick, or died, and worn flip flops? Then you’re probably entitled to a large settlement."… of which we the lawyers, will take most of ..
What’s all this got to do with anything? NADT it’s just stupid stuff like that that PMO!
Have a nice day…Now that expression PMO too, but I’ll save it for some other time..lol
