OMG…Finally did some calculations
So, I busted ass at the gym again today and I keep wondering why the hell am I not losing my stupid gut?!?! Well, deep down I really know, but whatever….I should still be losing weight. So I did some research and look at the numbers!!
Each day (work day anyway) I have two protein shakes and a protein bar as my main “food” through the day. Add to that some chicken for dinner (forget the veggies and potatoes or rice for this little exercise).
Calories 1410
Protein 196 g
Carbs 60 g
Fat 51 g
Now, about my annoying little habit of vodka and chex mix with nuts….That alone contains the following:
Calories 3084
Protein 62 g
Carb 146 g
Fat 155 g
Altogether, this is what I’m cramming in my pie hole on an average day:
Cal 4494
Protein 258 g
Carbs 206 g
Fat 206 g
So the freakin’ booze and snacks are more than tripling my calories, adding minimal protein, tripling my carbs, and quadrupling my fat!!!! Unbelievable. I guess I should be happy that it appears all I have to do is quit eating and drinking that crap and I should drop the fat like a teenager!! I’m such a creature of habit, I’ve had a real hard time stopping the little “evening ritual” of a stiff drink after work. Now that I know the numbers, and that I’m so frustrated with my lack of progress, I think I can finally break the cycle.
Now, if I want to have a drink or eat crap all I have to do is remind myself that it’s 3000 calories!! I’m hoping I have some big gains in the next week to reinforce this thought and then going forward I should be able to do much better.

well my friend, i read most of your blog and you should read mine, i believe that heart rate plays a major role in how we shed body fat and not muscle. next time your on a cardio machine and there is a graph on it that displays cardio heart rate and fat burn heart rate you will see why your not shedding the fat. not only does the heart rate need to be lower, hence no sweat, i move between sets. i just don’t sit on the machine and wait my 1 minute before i do another set. example
4 sets, 4 different excerises,
16 sets total,
1 minute between sets, gives you
you got it 16 minutes of cardio if you move,
food for thought.

Bad eating habits are hard to break but once you realize how they are holding you back from achieving your goals it is much easier to change. If you want it bad enough, you will do it. After awhile the satisfaction you get from your progress will make you kick yourself that you didn’t give up the bad habit sooner, and there’ll be no going back!

You are the number cruncher afterall. It’s good that you finally took a look at the "extras" because that will totally blow all the effort.
Give it more than a week though so you don’t get so discouraged at the results not being what you expect.
