So, I busted ass at the gym again today and I keep wondering why the hell am I not losing my stupid gut?!?! Well, deep down I really know, but whatever….I should still be losing weight. So I did some research and look at the numbers!!
Each day (work day anyway) I have two protein shakes and a protein bar as my main “food” through the day. Add to that some chicken for dinner (forget the veggies and potatoes or rice for this little exercise).
Calories 1410
Protein 196 g
Carbs 60 g
Fat 51 g
Now, about my annoying little habit of vodka and chex mix with nuts….That alone contains the following:
Calories 3084
Protein 62 g
Carb 146 g
Fat 155 g
Altogether, this is what I’m cramming in my pie hole on an average day:
Cal 4494
Protein 258 g
Carbs 206 g
Fat 206 g
So the freakin’ booze and snacks are more than tripling my calories, adding minimal protein, tripling my carbs, and quadrupling my fat!!!! Unbelievable. I guess I should be happy that it appears all I have to do is quit eating and drinking that crap and I should drop the fat like a teenager!! I’m such a creature of habit, I’ve had a real hard time stopping the little “evening ritual” of a stiff drink after work. Now that I know the numbers, and that I’m so frustrated with my lack of progress, I think I can finally break the cycle.
Now, if I want to have a drink or eat crap all I have to do is remind myself that it’s 3000 calories!! I’m hoping I have some big gains in the next week to reinforce this thought and then going forward I should be able to do much better.

After that holiday layoff, which I’ll NEVER do again, I’m finally back to where I was before my break. That in and of itself is depressing. SO, now I’m on my way to progress from here on out.
I’ll put up some progress pics in a couple weeks when I actually have made some progress.

So last week I returned to the gym after a month long layoff due to work, family and holidays. I have now reassessed where I am and put in place a plan to reach my goals. In doing this, I looked back at 2008 and realized it was not my best year for my fitness. I went through numerous short "breaks" from working out for various reasons and my diet was not good at all. Not really "bad", but certainly not what it should be.
So with every new year comes a chance to start anew. So here’s to 2009 being my strongest year ever!! Dedictation and discipline equals results.

So, between work, home, and entertaining family and friends, I couldn’t get to the gym from the week of Thanksgiving until this Monday!! UGH!! I probably needed the layoff to let my shoulder heal a little bit, but I HATE taking that much time off. I lost way too much strength and gained way too much fat!!
So really it’s almost like starting over again. Much like all the other chumps that run to the gyms in January and February, I’ll be resolving to lose fat in 2009, but the joke is on them…..I’m really going to do it. They’re just kidding themselves, pulling that lat bar all the way to their lap with the pin stuck at 40 lbs or walking on the treadmills talking to the person next to them…..what do they think that’s doing for them??? If you’re not sweating, you’re not doing it right!! HAHA

So now that football season is over for me, I can work my legs again. Today was my first leg day back, so I took it kinda light. I was hoping my patellar tendon in my left knee would feel better, but it still hurts pretty bad when I work any deep knee bending, like squats today. But I toughed it out and tried to work around it. I got four sets of deep squats done at 205. Other than the knee, it felt great!! Then went to the leg press and did a few light sets there. Then pumped up the calves doing calf presses on the leg press machine. Finished off with seated hamstring curls. I would normally do leg extensions as well, but I didn’t want to push my knee that hard.
Next week, I’ll warm up on the bike for 10 mins or so to get my knee loosened up a bit. Then I think I’ll start with box jumps, then squats, leg press, hammy curls, extensions, and calf raises.
I’m sure I’ll be sore tomorrow!!

Today I was able to bring the belt tighter by one notch! I’m still not seeing much drop in weight (201 this morning) and my crappy scale is irradic with my bf%, but I’m looking a little leaner in the mirror. I’ll get some pics up this weekend to see if there is a difference.
Slow and steady…..

OK, no, I didn’t RUN 20 miles, but I rode my bike 20 miles on Saturday. Not a bad day overall and I felt great through the ride. The result is the pounds are still about where they’ve been the last week or two, but as of this morning, I’ve dropped 3% of my body fat!!! Let’s keep that trend going!!!
That brings me down to 22% (yuk) bf. Once I get it under 20%, I’ll post some more pics to document my progress.
The diet is going well. Cheated a little too much over the weekend, but still on track.

Ran yesterday and finished 4 miles! Trying to burn the fat off as best I can. I posted some progress pics today. YUK Seeing my white squishy self on the web is some serious motivation!!
Hitting the gym today to do my push routine, run again tomorrow, pull on Wed….

So today is running day and the weather was perfect! Started running and felt great at the two mile mark, so I went around again for mile 3. Finished mile 3 with a stong kick sprint the last 40 yards. Felt great!!
Also, I finally cranked down my diet plan this week and I’m eating 5-6 meals per day and cutting down on the carbs. I also added some Omega 3-6-9 twice a day with those meals. Down to 203 this morning from 206 Sunday, although I’m sure a lot of that is water weight.
I need to get some "beginning" pictures up this week to track my progress. Just be kind with my pale squishy body, folks. HAHA There’s plenty of solid muscle under there, but I need to clear the decks so you can see it. I always joke that I carry my six-pack in a cooler.

So Monday was an off day for the holiday. Tuesday was off due to missing my shoes (see below). Wednesday was running day…2 miles at a solid pace in 90 degree heat. Today I packed my lifting routine into one day. Tomorrow I run some more!!
Everyday is one day closer to the goal…
