It has been awhile since I posted something. I have been very pleased with how things are coming along. I have been getting some nice complements at work and at the gym. The best compliments came this weekend at my wife’s family reunion. I had not seen most of the family in about a year. When I arrived, my wife’s cousin came right up to me and said, "Norm, you are buff!". He wanted to know what I was doing to get buff. I left for a couple of hours and while I was gone, 3 of my wife’s female cousins told her that I was hot and they were impressed with how I looked. Now, I don’t say this to be egotistical. I was always kind of a nerd/geek in high school. My wife is the only girlfriend I have had. What I am getting to is that bodybuilding has boosted my confidence and has pulled me out of the mild depression I was going through. The confidence flows over to my intimate life with my spouse, my ability to keep up with the kids, and even at work I have more confidence giving presentations and communicating with co-workers.

Ever since I was a young boy working out with my dad at the Air Force gym, I have always wanted my veins to show on my biceps. It only got worse with the onset of Schwarzenegger and Stallone movies. In fact, I never really, truly understand how and why the veins would pop out the way they did, until just a few weeks ago. I have never pumped iron hard, or for more than a few months. I think we all think that veins pop out like they do because of pumping iron. I am now of the understanding it has to do with decreasing your body fat too. Well, to say the least, I am really excited as I am now starting to see the veins pop out of my shoulders and arms. It might be a mental/psychological thing, but it totally has me pumped. Plus, my wife (daisybob) kinda likes it too.

So, last Sunday I came across the "300" workout. It supposedly was used to train the actors and stunt men for the movie "300". You can find clips of the exercises by going to Youtube and typing in "300 workout". Anyways, I have been told to mix up my workout routine every 3 to 4 weeks. I saw this workout and I couldn’t wait to do it. I did it yesterday. It took me 1.5 hours to complete. The goal of the workout is to do each exercise in one set, and to do it as quickly as you can. The inventor of the routine has completed the entire workout in 18 minutes. Well, to say the least, it kicked my "bootius maximus". My hamstrings hurt so bad today, I can’t sit on the toilet. You can realize my pain when I add that I had my colon remove years ago due to disease, and I go to the bathroom more than most. I can’t wait to try it again. I am hoping I will be ready in a couple of days. Until then… "We are in for one wild night" - King Leonidas from the movie "300".

Well, finally, after almost 8 years, I am back in the gym. After so many excuses, it is so awesome. My favorite excuse, "I am waiting for a gym to be built closer to where we live". Or, "whose gonna watch the kids?" Around January first, my gym had an offer that I could not refuse. I figured that if I could get healthy, and possibly get of my meds, my gym membership would pay for itself. After a month, my wife joined. We do get to work out together almost once a week. But we go about 3 times week each. Now, after two months, I am off my meds. What I like the most about coming back is that this is the first time I have really worked my legs. My wife and I love the Smith machine squats and legs presses. I love working my calves. Not only do I want to me healthy, but I really want to get cut.
