SPECWAR/SPECOPS

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Today is March 23 and I have roughly 2 months to continue preparing for my summer training.  I recently submitted scores to be selected for one of these slots and although they were good, my biggest surprise coming from the 21 pull-ups that I did, I still have a long way to go especially by their standards.

I just came off of spring break, and more or less took the whole week off to rest as I just completed the fitness exam the Thursday prior to break and was training pretty hard up to that point.  Plus the wear and tear from baseball season was an added reason to take time off completely.

I need to continue working on my cardio exercises to bring up my endurance.  I’m too slow as a runner and if we’re going to work in boots it will be especially hard to keep up.  However, training for this cruise has presented me with a great deal of benefits in a very short amount of time.  The large increase in demand I’ve placed on my body has given me a much more defined and powerful looking physique and I feel more efficient. GTG for now!

Toney Freeman- “X-Man”

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I just wanted to pay tribute to my favorite bodybuilder–Toney Freeman.  He recently placed fourth at this year’s Arnold Classic, 2009.  With stiff competition it was a very respectable placing and one to certainly be proud of.  It included the return of Victor Martinez and showcased up and comer Kai Greene who has made tremendous ground as of late.

Toney Freeman had an incredible year last year notably winning the Europa Super Show and placing 5th at the Olympia (up from 14th one year prior). He is an amazing competitor and has one of the most pleasing physiques in competition today.  Toney regularly threatens any competition at 6′2" tall and over 275lbs (290lbs at 2008 Olympia).  He brings balance, aesthetics, and mass.  To me he is the complete package and is an Olympia champion in my book.  He became my favorite bodybuilder about 4 years ago–a little after I began training.  We’re the same height and have the same type of physique.  I admire his ability to maintain a 32" waist (same as mine) with a physique as large as his.  Here’s a little video showing why he is a top tier pro who also loves what he does.

Congrats Toney, you’re the man!
