Confused!
I’m feeling a little down right now. I have a vision of "my perfect body" and it seems so far out of my reach! I know these things take time and that I must be patient, but today I am feeling a bit discouraged. I am in a gray area when it comes to my goals. I’ve lost the majority of the baby weight and planned to lose another 15 for a final weight of 130lbs. The problem is, as I shed the fat I notice that my body lacks muscle definition. I really want to gain muscle, but I want to lose the weight!! ARGH!! Is this where I stop watching the scale and start watching my measurements and body fat percentage? I want to feel better about my fitness goals. I am soooo confused right now? What do I do next?!

Congratulations on your weight loss and commitment. As you lose weight and fat, your body has to adjust and that takes time. There is nothing wrong with watching the scale or monitoring your body fat percentage. My advice to you is to build muscle because muscle will burn fat and you will obtain the tone that you are after simultaneously. Cardio exercise and diet also plays a role in this. Try to consume 1 to 1.5 grams protein per pound of your bodyweight each day and eat 6-7 small meals over the course of each day as well. Hope this helps. Stay strong and focused! All the best!

I’m also trying to lose the last 15lbs of the 60lbs I gained during my pregnancy. I check the scale once a week, and I’ve been hovering around 155lbs for as long as I can remember. However, I’ve dropped dress sizes (actually put on a pair of size 6 pants yesterday) and I’ve lost inches around my waist (probably elsewhere also, but I have yet to measure those body parts). I agree with jsfmt99’s advice on diet and exercise, which is what I’m currently doing. I would also have to say don’t let the reading on the scale fool you. A good way to gauge your progress is using a tape measure or seeing how your clothes fit.
