Day 57 - Found out a few things…
This past week I found out that my metabolism has pretty much stopped. I knew something was wrong because I should be shedding pounds rather than staying at the same weight. Now don’t get me wrong. Staying at a steady weight is good, well great for me but when you work so hard to shed some pounds and nothing happens, you kind of get ticked.
Finding this information out, I have changed how and what I have been eating. I work a desk job, so to keep my metabolism up, I have to use food and as much physical exercise as I can. I have started eating 5 to 6 small meals a day about 3 hours apart. The first benefit of this new habit is that I don’t feel as tired during the day.
- 8 - 8:30 = Breakfast
- 10:30 - 11 = EAS Whey Protein with Cup of Cho. Milk
- 1 - 1:30 = Lunch
- 3:30 - 4 = EAS Whey Protein with Cup of Cho. Milk
- 6 - 7:30 = Dinner
Today I started taking Universal Herbal Thermo Stack E/C/A. I took 1 pill before my morning walk of about 20 minutes on an empty stomach as prescribed. Took the second one about 15 minutes before lunch. Wasn’t sure if I should take it on an empty stomach the other two times a day, or just before breakfast.
I haven’t noticed any side effects but I have only taken two pills so far. Tomorrow I will repeat the 2 pills and then Wednesday, I’ll move up to 3. By Friday, I’ll be up to 4 pills with two being in the morning and 1 with lunch and dinner.
I am really looking forward to seeing if this helps me shed pounds. I was at 220 the first of the year, but due to surgery, I gained 20 pounds. I’m ready to get those 20 pounds off and drop another 20.
Do you think this is doable? Should I change the pill consumption and/or protein intake or leave the same.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, great work so far. Keep it up!
I noticed some things after reading this blog entry:
1) You express concern/frustration for a lack of results recently. There are many factors involved and they all should be assessed and addressed as indicated. First, you should not only record what you eat, but how much of the food you eat and the associated macro nutrients (carbohydrates, fat, proteins). Also, this blog entry does not really give a clue about your regular workouts, so maybe you need to bump the intensity up along with increasing variety or changing the methodology completely.
2) You asked about the supplements. As with any stimulant, you should always be careful. You should also monitor your blood pressure and make sure you still get adequate rest. Be sure to consume as much water as necessary, and as always, check with your doctor to make sure your heart is able to handle the increase in cardiac output.
3) You also asked about your weight loss goals. If what you are asking is if losing 40 lbs by July 1, 2008 is doable, then we need to look at the length of time. From today (Sept 17, 2007) there are approximately 40 weeks between today and July 1, 2008. At 1 lbs. per week, I would say that is certainly an attainable goal. Of course, it is very important to continue a "clean" diet and challenge yourself through your workouts weekly. Good luck!

I’d agree w/ svespie, particularly w/ the diet. When I started out, I lost 30 pounds on diet alone before I ever step foot into the gym.
There are plenty of great sites online, I use calorieking.com, but I hear fitday.com is just as good and it’s free. These sites have large food databases where you can track your calorie consumption. This keeps you accountable to yourself and gives you a more realistic notion of what you’re eating.
Remember, weight loss is simple math, expend more calories than you take in and you’ve got the equation down.
From what I understand, fitday.com also allows you to post links to your diet diary so others can view it. I think this has been helpful for some members here because they can post links to their diary and ask members to give them tips on their diet based upon what they have actually eaten over a given timespan.
The surgery sucks. My neck and shoulder have limited my upper body workouts for a few weeks now, I can definitely relate. Keep up the cardio and also look in Bodyspace for articles on HIIT. These may help.
Best of luck to you!
