eating before I workout

hey there - for those of you who read my blog yesturday and saw that i ate before I worked out or did cardio - I recv’d a lot fo responses about that…I understand that in order for me to loose fat I need to eat after my cardio and not before…but my sugar gets to low and I tend to shake and get very light headed by the time I get  done doing my cardio (I have even passed out a couple of times). That is the only reason why I eat before I do my cardio…
On the other hand I have had great results by doing that, because that is what works for me (last time I did this workout routine and ate before I did cardio I was able to get down to 14%)…I am open to suggestions on what to take or what to eat before I work out that maybe doesn’t have as many carbs in it…If you have suggestions please let me know…

and for the record I am not a diebetic nor am I hypo/hyper glycemic either…

have a good one!

I feel eating before you workout is fine. For the most part, the majority of the benefit of cardio is over the following 15 hours when your metabolism is lifted. If you are doing over 1.5hrs I would eat before. I also eat during on long cycling days. During 4 hours rides I consume up to 700 calories. (I am not recommending that to you, I am just saying). I workout first thing in the morning so my blood sugar is always low, I take a 50gram weight protein shake in water prior to lifting and morning cardio. Your body can convert anything to glucose, fat, carbs, protein. and the extra whey in my body is good to provide aminos as my body needs them during the workout. There is actually alot of research out there on the benefit of pre-workout meals. I totally concure thou that if somebody is strickly trying to get lean, wake up in the morning before you eat and walk for an hour on the treadmill. There is more to cardio thou than just burning fat and I am sure you exercise for other reason than jsut the fat burning, in which case, you need fuel! That is my take. Try a scoop of WHEY and see if that helps the energy.

Eating pre-workout is obviously necessary for you! Your passing out / shaky / light-headedness are symptoms of hypoglycemia. All that means is that the "sugar" in your system has been used up and you don’t have enough left for your brain. This is very dangerous! I think oatmeal is fine pre-workout, but I’d add in some protein (whey is good) or amino acids (either EAA or BCAA’s). When cutting, these will prevent your muscles from being used as fuel!
