Diet and non training day

I have not been bad with the food, but I am seriously having a carb issue.  My issue is that I am starting to "fear" carbs.  We do need some, no one really seems to know how many though.  I had a little rice and I do have veggies….but no starches and the rice was just about  a "smidge".,   Im eating mostly ground turkey , veggies, and salads right now.  Of course I have my boiled eggs for my salad though. The problem with a near abcense of carbs is getting tired (Has Not happened much yet) and ketosis. 

Here is a little blurb on ketosis:\

The body experiences a new condition when a person goes on the low-carbohydrate diet. The more commonly used glucose fuel is no longer available. The body reacts by dropping the pancreas’ production of insulin and increasing the hormone glucagon. The glucagon draws stored fat reserves in the form of triglycerides for use by the cells as the new energy source. However, the cells are slow to react to this new fuel source, and the individual feels weakness or a lack of energy. The resistance to burn fatty acids for energy can vary greatly between individuals. Some people feel this weakness, but others pick right up and take off with the feeling of greater energy than before.

The liver begins to catabolize (break down) the extra fatty acids which are not being utilized by the cells. However, the liver does not have the enzyme necessary for complete catabolism of the fatty acids. This causes the discharge of the ketone molecules into the blood. The strange taste in the mouth and mild breath odor shows the presence of these ketones. Other body cells can utilize the ketones for energy. The brain can also utilize ketones contrary to the myth that the brain must be powered by glucose only; although, some areas of the brain still require glucose, which the body makes from amino acids or fats.

The body begins to utilize the fatty acids for energy more efficiently after a few weeks and the ketone level drops to normal. This does not mean one is not losing weight. It means the body is becoming a more efficient fat burner.

The scientific and practical amount of carbohydrate needed in the diet is ZERO, NONE. Carbohydrate is not a requirement for any body function. In fact, it appears that the lower the carbohydrate level in the diet the better the long-term health. Age-related degenerative diseases are caused by high-levels of carbohydrates in the diet. One can be on a very low or zero-carbohydrate diet indefinitely as has been shown by the study of many primitive societies. END

This is a tough diet!!! I did some cardio on my luch hour.  10 on the procor cross trainer and 10 on the treadmill which included sprinting.  My shins hurt, so this is only for about a minute at a time. I know i HAVE TO TOUGH IT OUT OR MY FIGURE SUIT IS GOING TO BE GRIPPING MY ASS LIKE NOBODY’S BUSINESS.  I have only a few weeks left! 

Tomorrow I go in to train as usual. I am leaning more towards my usual pre contest full body workouts.  Sunday is still legs of course, but the rest is all supersetting and speed is essential for a cardio burn of course. Im still contemplating a water deplete at this time.  I could always start it and if I get too lean looking, drink more water.  Its a crap shoot at this point.

I suppose I have high standards and am really hard on myself, so I never feel like I am doing enough.  Today was smith squats at 135, leg extensions 110, curls at 80, leg press 430, dumbbell deadlifts at 25each hand and I did some romanians with the bar at 85 or so.  I havent done those in awhile so my numbers are kind of down. I also did modified horizontal, cable kickbacks and calves.  Oh and incline situps and leg raises.  Im trying to bring my abs back out, but cant go heavy yet, but I can FEEL them! 

My post workout treat was 5 jumbo eggs with whole wheat toast.  Right after that my sister calls me to come over for a picnic where I ate a cheeseburger (no bread, no ketchup) six deviled eggs, potato salad and a little macaroni salad, then later ate some melon.  I have a huge stomach.  I know, shows coming up, but hey, Im doing cardio.so I can afford it.  A couple years ago I did cardio and came out at 108.   Cardio gets me super tiny, so I am not so worried. I will freak out tomorrow.  If worse comes to worse I can drop 5lbs in a deplete and be at 120.

My legs are looking pretty lean though.  Not bodybuilding lean, but I really shouldnt complain after 6 weeks of not training right. I will upload some pics I just took of my progress but please note I am currently not tan and I was wearing my boyshorts, so no sexiness was used during the shooting of these photos……….

Lame gym days……..

So I had some free time and decided to go to the gym.  First of all I have had some facial swelling since my sinuses are rebelling and I may have developed a serious allergy to something (possibly pineapple).so I woke up with a "monster face" and big lips.  I honestly didnt know if I could go out like that!  My top lip is pretty big , even now.  Looks like I got elbowed in the face!

So I went and did 20 on the stepmill.  Every time I get on there I feel like I cant do it.  Like I will never last 20 minutes from sheer boredom.  Im looking at people walking by, the Tv that has no closed caption and want to get off.  After 20 I went in the weight room, did some incline situps, lateral raises and curls, leg extensions and seated curls and then did actually go into the tanning bed for 10 minutes. I dont like it, but I did it because we have had no sun here for quite some time and I start to get tired and lazy with the bad weather.  I think its been raining on and off for about 6 days now.  I needed some UV exposure and vitamin D, ya know?  I did cover my face though……so I dont feel so bad about going in there.  I feel like a wuss for not doing a weight workout, but seriously I wasnt due for any bodyparts and I really didnt want to run into anyone with my puffy face either. I also did an extra 15 or 20 on the treadmill at a 15 incline while waiting for the tanning bed though!  A guy was in the room forever!  The other bed is broken, so I used it while waiting.

Tomorrow is yet another leg day.  My legs are leaning out a little,teardrops are coming along pretty good.  I am getting definition, just not size as usual.   The Jay Cutler show is only 4 weeks away so I just have to bring what I have this time.  It is what it is.  I will start blogging more figure oriented blogs now, posing practice in my new suit, etc.  Stay tuned

Was supposed to be interviewing with a band , but the PR issues got out of hand so it was canceled. We wenrt to the show instead.  It was a good time and the bonus was the high rollers lounge.  Listen, I don’t give a crao about rich men……I don’t even gamble BUT FREE FOOD………..thats what Im talkin about!  I ate 30 shrimp….big ones too….and pasta and then some chinese broccoli and more pasta and then ate some more.  Free protein is priceless!  Oh, I go into the kitchen at work because Im out of protein powder and I have 1/2  a can at work and guess what? My freakin boss drank it all!  My chocolate Intrapro is history!  I was pretty unhappy……he’s a dentist, Im poor……..I  need my shakes dammit!  Thats like 1/2 my food intake up until the show and now I have to get more.

So let me tell you about this fight I had with a guy.  He was a friend of an old girlfriend and into dinner and conversation I overhear him talking to my sister in law saying how he respects her and doesnt respect me because something stupid like she’s Italian and tans and I get a spray tan.  I was like "excuse me?" I kind of went off on him because he was hitting on her and had to use me and insult me because I don’t cook myself in a tanning bed as I am Irish and don’t want skin cancer? Like I am the "fake" chick because I don’t want to get wrinkled and have those ugly spots when Im 60? Besides that, my sister in law is married……get off that buddy! Whats’ wrong with people?  If you don’t like me…..fine……kiss my butt…….but don’t insult me. I work hard to do what I do.  I swear lots of men seem to like women who are afraid to take out the trash for fear of breaking a nail.  Keep your sissy women cus only sissy men like sissy women, it makes them feel like MEN. Do my muscles make men feel less like men? I wouldnt want that kind of man anyway……….

Enough of that.  He made me mad and I hardly ever get mad believe it or not. 

Im going in to train for awhile tomorrow.  I didnt eat really bad, just a little bit of pasta with some white sauce.  I dont think I have had carbs for a couple days, so its ok.  Tomorrow s cardio and calves and abs.

It FIGURES……….

ok, 4 and 1/2 weeks until the Jay Cutler.  I got a couple pics to post, but I am wearing gym pants.  I like the fact my back has kind of flattened out.  I tend to carry alot of muscle there.  As far as who is going to show up at the Cutler, well, there is a New England NPC a week later…..so its a crap shoot.  Some may be intimidated by the Cutler name and decide only to do Maggie and Dave’s show.  We’ll see!!  I may do both, depends how I feel.  I think I am only doing masters 35 plus at the Cutler show.  I may add in the open, depending on the number of competitors. If there are 50 women……….not doing it.  Callouts and posing in row after row of women really sucks. I did all 4 divisions in my last show with blisters and cramping toes……..on stage like 13 times.  Yuck

Tonight was back and bi’s.  Last night I did some incline situps and surprised myself with my energy. It didnt hurt for the first time in 6 weeks! I even managed 30 on some pec flies.   Todays roster was:

db curls 20lbs, barbell 30.

bent over db rows 25lbs, bent over smith 75, lat press down 60, seated cable rows 60, lat pull downs on cables and I think thats it.

We capped it off with 20 minutes on the treadmill, inclined at 15, 2mph, then upped to 3.  I like a nice uphill walk.  I mix it up with changing foot positions.  I wanted to do stepmill, but there was someone on there, so I improvised. I did sweat………yuck…..double yuck.

Here are some progress pics at 4 and 1/2 weeks out.  I will start wearing my suit in them soon.
