American should be ashamed

Another rambling blog by yours truly. Why is this so big??  I didn’t touch font size,,,hm? I did chest and tris, got 80 on tricept press, only benched 95 because my delt still hurts.  I have always had a problem with it and it flares up sometimes.  I’ll suck it up I guess.  You know sometimes I look up into the mirrors when I am working out and I look pretty mean.  It isn’t my intent, just me being intense.  Where are all the other intense people?  They have to work out somewhere.  How come most people in my gym never look any different?  I have been going there a year now and only one kid looks different.  What’s up with that?  Maybe because we live in CT?  People don’t have to wear short sleeves and shorts all year , so they slack off or just don’t care?  America is sad and in rough shape.  You can’t go in a store without having to peep through a 6 inch space because they have too many snacks on the counter.  The have new and improved candybars, supersized heart attacks on a bun,and 1 gallon personal sodas.  I am disgusted by the gluttony shoved in our faces.  How come I cant get a fast food turkey burger on whole wheat? How come I can’t get some steamed broccoli and chicken at a drive thru?  Because I am in a hurry, I am supposed to eat a pound of grease?  I was in the department store and there was a very large woman with a very large little girl.  She had to weigh 150 at about age 8-10……doomed to a life of medical problems, yet no one intervenes.  Is that not childhood neglect?  Mom may not be the brightest bulb, but she knows her child is too large to be healthy.  The little girl will never climb the monkey bars or jump on a trampoline like other kids because she CANT.  So next comes asthma, edema of the legs, diabetes , high blood pressure and heart disease……so sad.  I’m bumming myself out.   What can we do about it?  I try to educate my children everyday about health and their food.  Hopefully, they will do the same with their children someday.  I also want to help people who were lead down the wrong path by their parents.  I am taking the personal training course and will do my best to try to change people’s bad habits and ways of thinking.  I will try to make a difference one person at a time……

You are soooo right!!! I was talking with my girlfriend, about a month ago and we cannot even go to dinner together because of portion sizes and nothing fits into our diet!! I said to her we should open up a resturaunt with all but good wholesome foods..Even when we go for drinks it is always the same "can i have bacardi on the rocks with 2 splenda on the side and four lemon wedges". I work at a hospital and i see alot of obese children with bad eating habits it is such a shame. I work on an open heart unit and the surguries are getting younger! The parents should go to nutritional classes or get fined! For the kids will suffer in the long run. These kids our are future and teaching them unhealthy life styles is just terrible…..

You know what, I think it is like that all over…same people, same size, same everything for year(S), but where are the "freaks" at? Scattered here and there to educate the uneducated, to show it is a lifestyle and not a sport. There is a price to pay to achieve what you want. Continue and strive for your goals. I don’t want to be one of the "ones" who go to the gym everyday for years and look exactly the same. Bigger, stronger, ripper, and of course more educated!

Children are considered neglected or abused when we under feed them, why not when we over feed them. They both cause medical problems that lead to death!?? One thing that strikes me as odd, is that Americans spend a fortune on "Junk Food", but complain about the high prices to go to their numerous Doctor visit. Or they’ll spend 40 bucks to go to the movies eat popcorn, large sodas, and candy, but say $40 for a gym membership is too much!?? Things that make you say mmmmm?

It’s all about the easy road, and this lifestyle absolutely does not fit in that category!! And no one, anymore, seems to realize that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My old job received an education package right before I left with a realistic (although plastic) example of a pound of fat that is accurate in mass. It’s disgusting, not to mention ginormous! And feeding children nothing but junk should be considered child abuse. The sad thing is, though, that a lot of it is that these people are on food stamps which aren’t enough to cover anything healthy, which sucks. The government should re-allocate food stamp money and regulate what is purchased with it so it’s not Fritos and Mtn. Dew from the gas station…*sigh* Education is the key, and if anyone can do it, I know you can Fern!

I agree with you. There are times I wish more parents cared. In the ER, where I work, it disgusts me plenty when I see patients in here for chest pain because they’ve eaten themselves to unhealthy and their kids look just like them. What’s worse? When you see a family of obese. That movie Wall-E wth all the fat ppl is what I see in the ER all the time. It’s freakin’ scary.

Fern, YOU have made a difference on me already. You’re one of the people that have changed my way of thinking. You’re already proven that I can still be feminine, sexy, and fit at the same time o^____^o
