Update! Baby news!

Well, what news today! We had our first ultrasound! Mommy did not have morning sickness but daddy sure did! Acutally, he picked up a little bug at work and is feeling horrible. He hung in there though to get the first peek at the newest little one! Turns out we estimated our due date incorrectly. It is so interesting how modern technology can give you the age of a embryo down to the day! Anyhew, we miscalculated the last cycle and I am apparently a “late ovulator” lol. Got a kick out of that! SO- Baby Poe is only about 5 and 1/2 weeks old! It was really hard to see anything BUT we did manage to see and hear the heartbeat. WOW- that was really cool!!! Also, the technician said that the heartbeat was strong and normal for that age and the sac looked fine. I also had about 100 (ok, not quite a hundred) vials of blood taken for all my lab work. The lab tech said that my blood looked GREAT! VERY red, meaning that my diet is very good and I am very hydrated. So that made me feel good too! So, our new due date is January 30th! Daddy is really hoping we don’t get pushed into Superbowl time, especially if the Cowboys are playing! Our next appointment is June 25th for our 8 week ultrasound. THEN we should get some good shots! We will also have the option of doing what they call an Ultrascreen. It is a test using ultrasound and bloodwork to determine the risk of Down syndrome, Trisomy 18 and certain congenital heart defects. It will give us a good estimate of where we fall in terms of likelyhood of detection/risk. It has a 90% success rate of detecting those conditions WITHOUT having to do amniocenticis or other more invasive tests. Also, looks like I may not be out of the woods as far as morning sickness like I thought, what a BUMMER!!!! Aparantly that happens from 6-8 weeks. Until next time! Smiles, Laurie
