Ok, so I overdid it a bit at the gym.. Ok, alot! I was doing the bleachers and walking on high incline. Not to mention keeping up with my 4 day split. Granted, I have dropped the weight a bit and don’t do any squats or leg presses for legs anymore. Last Wednesday I was traveling for work and went to the hotel gym. Not much of a gym, just cardio machines. Wednesday is usually my off day so I just walked for 30 min. on high incline. About 15 minutes in, my right side started hurting BAD! I mean it felt like someone was stabbing me. So I dropped the incline and dropped the mph to 2. Yes, I was walking SLOW and it STILL hurt like crap! I finished out the 30 minutes, in pain and headed back up to my room. I laid down on the bed and wham, started having major cramping. I really thought it was contractions, but sucked it up and rested.
On my way home the next day, I made an appt. with my doctor. During the drive, the cramping started getting worse and more frequent. I called her back and she told me to go straight to labor and delivery. Ok, NOW I was freaking out. I got there and they admitted me. After about 7 hours, they put me on fluids and demerol. They also gave me a muscle relaxer for the cramping, if it was infact contractions, which it WASN’T. They did an ultrasound and baby looked GREAT! Thank GOD! I thought it was a cyst on my ovary and they said due to the size of my uterus they could not tell but did not think it was. I still think it may have ruptured and that is why it hurt so bad, but hey I am no Doctor!
I stayed the night then they released me. It turns out that I was overdoing it at the gym and had to take a week off. Last night I took the pup for a quicky 25 minute walk at a very slow pace. I felt ok until the end, started hurting again. SO, I am going to ramp up slowly and be very careful not to overdo it. Also, during the ultrasound it was found that the Previa is still there and has not moved. This is not the news I was hoping for so I am still on pelvic rest until the next ultrasound in 3 weeks. If it does not move, I will not be able to deliver the baby vaginally but rather have a scheduled C Section. They typically like to do them early so I don’t go into labor. Worst case, I could hemmorage and bleed out killing both the baby and me. I really feel strongly that I don’t need to worry about that! As long as we keep an eye on the condition, we will be fine!
Due to my inability to work out as hard as pre preggo, I really need to clean up my diet and pull the strings! So, any suggestions are helpful!
Take care,
Laurie

Yup, it’s a boy!! Hooray! We both really wanted a boy, but of course would have been happy with either.. Personally I think there is room for ONLY ONE drama princess in the house and your lookin at her! LOL!!! We have named him Robert Lewis after my husbands father and my grandfather.. A very strong, manly name! Check out the GUNS on my boy already!!!!
Anyhew, We had our second trimester ultrasound and everything is fine with the baby.. I have a condition called Previa Placenta, where the placenta implants itself lower by the cervix (or partially covering it as in my case). Basically that means that if it does not move, I will have to have a Csection.. there is a 90% chance that it WILL move so that is good! I go every 6 weeks for more ultrasounds to keep a watch on it AND I am on "Pelvic Rest"- Meaning, NO SEX (YIKES!!!) and no strenuous activity (running, step class, stairmill, heavy weights- sucks!!!) for at least 6 weeks..
So, just as I was really getting into the groove during my step class (I almost need a belly bra! LOL) I have to lay off. SO, I am doing some plyometrics and walking at a fast pace on the incline tread…
As far as weight goes, YIKES, I am up to 147 now.. That is 17 lbs weight gain… Given, I have been lax on my clean eating… Binging from time to time on junk.. Sorry, I’m PREGGERS and HUNGRY!!!! But I am putting myself back on track especially since I can’t run or do step (megga calorie burn).. I am really hoping to maintain my weight to 30-35 lbs total by January.. I feel pretty good about it. I just really need to stay on track with my diet.
POLL: How do YOU combat your cravings????
Hope ya’ll have a great night!

NO more squats. Acutally no more squats, leg presses or lunges until after the baby. YIKES! I had some pain in my low back and some cramping and the DR. said it was my round ligament stretching. I had known that squats were out in the third trimester BUT I had NO idea I would have to give them up so soon!!! I am 17 weeks today and almost half way! Pretty sad when you start dreaming of squats isn’t it? lol
My doctor said the primary reason I could not do any weight bearing activity such as squats, leg presses and lunges was due to that ligament. She said if it is kept tight, it can snap during child birth causing my uterus to FALL OUT. OMG! FALL OUT???!!! WTF???!!! So since I really would rather not have that fall out, I will do what she said. So, from this point on, leggies day will be a breeze. I plan on doing more stairmill which may help with the jiggle (oh yeah she said my thighs would be jiggly, HELL TO THE NO!)
Here is what new legs day will look like:
Warm up- Stairmill- 15 min.- level 4 to 5
Quad extensions- 5 sets of 12- 50lbs (maybe 60 if I am feeling good!)- I am trying to burn the crap out of them though, not build
Ham extensions (seated)- 5 sets of 12- 60lbs
Adductor machine- 5 sets of 15- 115lbs
Abductor machine- 5 sets of 15- 85 to 90lbs
That is about all I can do!!!! Do you guys have any other recommendations??? Deadlifts and good mornings are also out… I pushed for it and she shot me down..
Have a great day!

Been awhile since I blogged so I thought why not. In my second trimester now (week 15) and have MUCH more energy now! Due to the upswing in energy, I am able to workout longer and harder than I was before. Now I am back to my regular 4 day split (trying to do leggies 2X a week) and since my boobs don’t hurt as bad, I can RUN again! Woo hoo!!! Just have to keep an eye on my HR so it does not go over 160.
My weight is holding at 140 now and I am hoping to keep it there until 20 weeks. That way, I can avoid gaining more than 25 lbs during the pregnancy.. I think by keeping my diet relatively clean (which I do except the few treats each week- Hey, I am pregnant!!!) I can do it!
Thanks to all of you for keeping me motivated during all this. It has been very difficult to watch my 6 pack disappear and see my muscles hiding under the extra fluid now that I am pumping 3X the blood, BUT I am changing my attitude and surrendering to it.
Hell, if I am going to be pregnant, I may as well enjoy it right!!!
Keep motivating yourself and others!!!

I am finally at peace with the fact that weight gain is inevitable with pregnancy. I am not going to try to fight it, I am not going to feel guilty about an occasional (Ok, maybe 2X per week) cheat meal or treat either.. I am still at the gym hitting it 6 days per week and STILL eating clean most of the time. I am wrapping up the first trimester and the bump is making it’s grand appearance! It is amazing how fast those abs disappear! LOL. They will be back and I am cool with it.
I have started mixing up the cardio since I can’t run much any longer (mostly due to the fact I live in Houston and it is 500 million degrees outside! PLUS my boobs hurt SO bad I can’t run) by doing Step class and walking on max incline for 30 minutes. I am also doing some eliptical but have to be really careful not to get my heart rate over 150 at the MAX! The doctor first said 140 and I LAUGHED her out of the room. HELLLLOOOO I wake UP and my heart rate is 130! That is just part of being ADD I guess. Anyhew, I did legs and calves tonight and the treadmill for 30 minutes… I am mixing up my 4 day split mostly cuz I am bored, but here is what the new split looks like: Monday- Shoulders and Chest, abs + Cardio (not much chest due to my February surgery (yes, boob job). Tuesday- Tri’s and Bi’s, abs and Cardio. Wednesday- Back and Calves + Step. Thursday- Legs + Cardio. Friday- Cardio Only or maybe some shoulders if I feel like it! Saturday- Step + some more legs/glutes. Sunday- OFF or walk the pooch.
Legs day was as follows. Keep in mind I am in Maintenance mode right now, not trying to set any personal records (although I would LOVE to!!!)
Hack Squats- 60 lbs- 4 sets 12 reps
Smith Squats- 90 lbs- 5 sets 10 reps
Seated Calf Raises- 5 sets- 15 reps- 60lbs
Adductor machine- 115lbs- 4 sets of 25
Abductor machine- 130 lbs- 4 sets of 20 (hell yeah it burns!)
Standing calf raises- 4 sets- 15 reps- 60 lbs.
leg extensions- 5 sets (drop set on last 2) 60 lbs- 12 reps. 40 lbs last set for 20 reps. BURN it up.
My legs were wobbly since I moved FAST on the transitions with no rest, then did the treadmill on level 13 incline at 4.0 for 30 minutes. I did run for 4 minutes but my boobs hurt too bad so I stopped…
Anyhew, hope you guys are doing GREAT! Keep inspiring yourself AND motivating OTHERS to do the SAME!

My total SEXY preggo ticker! How fun is this! Well, my six pack has dissapeared and now I am showing, only slightly but showing! Only about 3 more weeks of hard core ab work until I am banished to the "modified" on the stability ball. I am ok with it all, come to terms and am confident that my "muscle memory" will come back in no time!
I am still freaking about the pushing part. Don’t know if I can handle it! I had a C section with my first and it was a pretty long recovery. I am trying to opt for the one that will get me back in the gym FAST!!!
What do you moms out there think?
Smiles!

Monday. UGH. Back at work today, just getting ready for a trip to Dallas for a few days to visit customers. I don’t know what I will do without my NAP! I am so exhausted now a days, it is hard to get through the day. Then the evening comes and by the time I go to the gym, get home, cook dinner, clean up and get a shower, I am ready for bed at 8:30! I have 1 more month until the 2nd trimester kicks in, then I will be back to somewhat normal!!! We have our 2nd ultrasound and ultrascan on Thursday morning. The little bean is now starting to make mommies tummy pooch! I hear that after your first pregnancy, you show sooner. I can tell you that is the TRUTH! My pants are tighter and I cannot fit in my size 4 pants much longer! Time to bite the bullet and face the inevitable! That’s ok! I am still exercising and eating well. Ok, so I have a little treat every now and then! Moderation right? I am not hitting it as hard in the gym right now, just aiming to maintain not grow (per the advice of many!). It is really hard for me not to give it 100% in the gym as that is just the way I am! But it is for the good of the bean so I will suck it up and be good!Hope you guys have a great week! I will post pics of the bean on Thursday.
XOXO Laurie

Sounds simple doesn’t it? It is amazing the motivation I get when I see an overweight person killing it at the gym. #1- they are MAKING THE EFFORT to do something wonderful for their health and body #2- they show others that it CAN be done! #3- makes me want to work that much harder!
It is even more exciting when you see folks who have been coming to the gym for awhile and really make progress! I usually go up to them and tell them how fantastic they look. I love the way they BEAM! Really makes my day! I am really going to start pursuing more of a fitness related career. I already have my website, www.bodymotioninc.com up and going and am doing my screenprinting on activewear again. I am also taking some sports nutrition courses so pretty soon I will be CERTIFIED! I am already helping some people with their diet and exercise plans and hope to continue and become even MORE knowledgeable as I become more educated.
It is ALL OF YOU who keep me motivated and for that I thank you!!
Until next time, motivate yourself and others!
