What is life? Wise men throughout the ages have been trying to answer this question since the dawn of recorded history. Most of us come to realize that life is much more than breathing, eating, and having a heart beat. Life is like trying get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
There is no satisfaction found in following the wise owls of this world who have rejected the Word of God (Jeremiah 8:9). Personally, I would rather have life than to be able to define it. Consider what Jesus said in John 10:10, "...I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." Life results from accepting God's gift of Jesus Christ, but the "having life more abundantly" part isn't automatic. This is the only way to explain why so many who profess Jesus as savior, live a life that is essentially the same as it was before they were born again.
This certainly describes my previous state for many years. It wasn't until I discovered the key to get the more abundant life promised in John 10:10 that I even realized that I didn't have it. For all who are ready the key is found in Romans 12:2. This verse has a two part command. The first is "be not conformed to this world." To think the way this world thinks (have fun, make money, party, get toys, etc..) is to be conformed to this world. The second command is to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Being transformed is the harvest that comes from renewing the mind (see the Parable of the Sower in Matthew 13:1-13).
Let go of the way the world thinks. Saturate your mind with the Word of God and it will be renewed. This will require much more than feeding on the Word of God for a couple of hours every Sunday while being feed the messages of the world in HDTV 4 to 6 hours every day. Or do you believe they spend millions of dollars on advertising because it doesn't influence you? Little by little you will be either conformed to this world or transformed by the Word of God depending on which you value more. For what you value, you will give your time and attention. Being born again is only the beginning. The abundant life is not something that we are suppose to have in the sweet by and by only. It is something we are suppose to have right here and now. You choose it or refuse it everyday (read Romans 12:2 again).
