Good Advertisement - Daily Grind #210
Tomorrow is the day. Showtime! Last day to prep. Woke up early this morning even though I got to bed rather late. My sleep was a little fractured because I couldn't seem to get the temperature in the hotel room comfortable. I woke up a couple of times because it was too cold and a couple of times because it was too hot. Then at about 2 am I was actually ready to get out of bed until I caught a glimpse of the time. I believe in getting up early, but that's way too early. I kind of laid there half asleep unit about 3 am. That's when I deceided to get up and get busy with my morning ritual.
I was down stairs in the hotel gym at about 4:50 am. I had the place all to myself until about 5:30 am. Just about the time when I broke out my bands for my X-Man routine. This older lady with a brace got one of the treadmils. She was wearing a brace on her knee. She watched as I went through three giant sets with my bands. As I was putting them back in my bag, she turns to me and says "you are a good advertisement for those bands." "I take them with me everywhere I go," I said. "It's like having my own gym in just one bag."
I was still thinking about this minute long conversation as I continued my workout. While I certainly appreciated her comment, it just felt like I had left something unsaid. It occurred to me that to say I was a good advertisement for resistance bands is a lot like saying a car is fast because it has speed rated tires. The reality is that the car being fast has much more to do with the huge engine under the hood than do the tires. In the same why the grace of God has more to do with how I look than do the bands. I like the bands. They are very useful. My desire however, is to be a good advertisement for the engine of my life, Jesus Christ.
