How do you say goodbye?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

How do you say goodbye? I wish I had the answers and the solutions. Sometimes you’ve just gotta let go, and as much as you can’t fathom the day things are no longer the same, it has to be done. It’s easy to say, "John, look at the big picture, your future is brighter now!" or "Don’t worry, there’ll be many more where you are going"… Both statements are true, but neither one will take away the pain of losing something embedded in your brain and virtually irreplaceable.

I have never walked away from a place I love, nor have I ever said goodbye to someone when I want everything but. This is the first time I’m having to do both at the sametime, and it hurts somewhere so deep no bandage can reach. Knowing everything will be different tomorrow morning makes me not want to ever close my eyes tonite.

It’s hard to put thoughts into words, especially these. How do you solve an impossible situation? How can I try to KEEP something that was never mine in the first place? There are no answers to these questions, because some scenarios are made with no solutions to complement. That’s the way it is.. This is the hand I was dealt.

Taken away from me: a few very special people…

What I’m left with: a brand new beginning…

How I get through today: 2 bags of chips, 5 cookies, and a prayer asking God to safe guard their continuing journeys without me.

How I get through tomorrow: Faith, love, strength, hope, and the undying, unrelenting desire to always make them proud.

Independence Day Workout: Triceps SHOCK DAY

I chose the workout time today to be precisely when the fireworks went off at around 10:20PM. I figured denying myself the pleasure of watching fireworks on a cool Independence Day nite would be a challenge in itself. To top it off, I decided that this day would be a Triceps Shock Day.

Dark gym, no music, no crowds.. It was just me, my MP3 player, and my stop watch. Workout partner wasn’t with me, she’s probably enjoying a fine night with her friends and family (and she deserves it too).. Every bodypart needs a crazy day like this.. No set-counting, no rep-counting, just brutal sets using every technique in the book: drop-sets, supersets, giant-sets, forced reps. The goal was to trash the triceps, push them to a point past what they are used to. There was no back workout after that. The focus is on the triceps and only on the triceps.

Here are the exercises I did:

Incline bench skull crushers

 Reverse grip press-downs

Rope pressdowns

Bench dips

V-bar pressdowns

Behind-neck dumbbell french press

In all, I did about 20-25 sets. Some of the sets ran together because of the various techniques I used. Typical rest time was 90 secs.

Duration: 80 minutes

Results: I kept on going until I couldn’t really contract my triceps anymore. They were almost numb and warm to the touch. They were so pumped at the end of the workout it was very difficult to drive home.

July 4th

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007
It’s the 4th of July folks, and yes the flag is still there!

Out of everything to be thankful for, how can we ever forget the blessings this great nation have brought upon us all?

I see too many people rushing to pop fire works, firing up the grill for bbq, or in a dash to the nearest parade. Few take the time to thank all those who came before us who made everything we have remotely possible.

It makes me sad that people are crying over the rain in Texas because now they don’t get to go to their lake houses or sunbath in the sun. Give me a break. Let’s remember all those who bled to make sure the stripes on our flag stays red!

It’s gloomy outside, about to rain yet again.. It’s always a good time to reflect on a rainy day, and I’m here thinking yet again.

I dare not slack off. Discipline is hard to come by these days, and coupled with the desire for instant gratification, it’s little wonder that most people do not find the resolve to fight on in the face of adversity. Afterall, there are far too many distractions: women, parties, drinking, drugs, shopping, etc. All those things slowly erode away our determination to progress.

It is for this reason that I have set up some restrictive boundaries for me, even though no one is there to hold me accountable for them. As much as I can, I do things set up to resist my urge to give into temptations.

Sometimes I do cardio just because it’s something I hate doing. My body is fully capable of burning off everything via diet alone, but cardio is a challenge because I absolutely loathe it. I will also eat some things that I hate eatting, just because I know if it’s food, then someone, somewhere in the world is eatting it cuz that’s all they can get.

I’ve developed a real pet peeve for people who say things like "ewww you eat that?" when they see things other people eat that they don’t like.. You know what? Whatever it is you hate eatting, someone out there is feeding his damn family with it cuz that’s all they can afford.. If you dislike it so much, save your comments so the less fortunate can enjoy their meals in peace.
