Suzi 9mm, Whiplash and Chelsea

Happy New Year!

I rang in the new year last night with my husband, my teammate Suzi, and good friend Chelsea in the dance pit at a Joan Jett concert.  She looks and sounds better than she did back in the day of The Runaways.  She rocked SOLID for at least an hour, muscles rippling as she swung her guitar and jumped all over the stage.  She wore a shiny black latex corset top that exposed her amazing abs. She was never out of breath and her make-up didn’t smudge a millimeter. Then I did the math and realized she is 50 years old! She looks younger than I do! Tears of inspiration ran down my face as she did a punk version of Auld Lang Sine. I made a vow to myself at that moment- I will be that strong and awesome by the end of this year and for all years to come.

Today, after the lack-o-sleep hangover was through,  I did the Ab Ripper P90X workout and the plyometrics routine my derby coach devised (basic quad/hamstring plyos using a step and 10 lb weights).  My husband came home with a late Yule gift- a pull-up bar! Naturally, I can only do one. LOL! I guess I have my work cut out for me!

My workout goal for this week is to make sure I work at least 30 minutes every day for the next week, giving my muscle groups at least a day of rest between stress. Our league break from derby ends Sunday with practice from 9-11, so cardio is not going to be an issue!

My nutritional goal is to remember to drink water. It sounds so simple, but it gets me every time.  I tend to just grab a diet coke at work between chasing babies and changing diapers. I’m also going to take my lunch to work so I eat something low fat and nutritious instead of what the toddlers eat (macaroni and cheese).

I have a workout session planned for tomorrow with some of my derby girls and a hot tub party to follow.  We all have ambitious resolutions…. we’re going to make them fun!
