Triceps, Biceps, abs and Carbon monoxide poisioning!

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Well I went back to the gym today but not until I had a mishap with my chimney at home. My Carbon monoxide detector went off! I was sleeping all day and I just thought I need to make up on some sleep but apparently not. LOL. The fire department came over and found the source in the kitchen. I recovered quickly with fresh air and went to the gym anyway. I only lost a bit of strength in the last month. I was able to complete all of the exercises but just found it tough on the heavier last 3-4 reps. I ate so so today. I made guacamole with plain greek yogurt and had that with some low fat tortilla chips. Otherwise I had baked chicken with salsa and cheddar and a detour bar and a 1/4 detour bar.  I think I will have some yogurt and granola for dinner.

Sugar and me

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

I am writing this post as a reminder of what sugar does to my body. I have been eating a carbohydrate controlled diet for weeks but today I indulged in dark chocolate, salted carmel hot chocolate, a molasses cookie and a cup of ice cream. Within three minutes I started sweating. Within twenty minutes I experienced the following symptoms: headache, muscle weakness, excessive salivation, numbness of the mouth and fingers. My blood sugar level is 112 which in light of the amount of sugar I consumed means that I am oversecreting insulin. Wonderful… I’m not pissed at myself but I am very concious of the horrible physical effects of too much sugar. I will never be able to tolerate any significant amount of sugar and although I have lost weight I still have this metabolic disorder. The truth is that our bodies are not meant to be able to tolerate processed foods and high sugar intake. Well I thank god that I don’t bring these types of food inside my home. I got tempted today in Target by the Starbucks counter. It won’t happen again. I don’t enjoy feeling like I am having a stroke. I’m gonna get my ass to the gym and turn this around. Later…

Well something came up and I didn’t make it to the gym but I did use my recumbent bike for 35 minutes for a distance of almost 6 miles. The only bad thing is that I used the bike at 11 PM so I am wide awake now. I seem to have bounced back from the sugar crisis. Tommorow is supposed to be chest, back and abs but I may do legs, abs and delts instead. I have band rehearsal tommorow and I find it harder to sing after I use my chest muscles in the gym. I will eat properly tommorow.

Dry brushing and other stuff

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

I’ve started dry brushing my skin recently since I heard it helps to promote skin tightening, helps the body to redistribute fat deposits and reduces cellulite. As a nearly thrity nine year old woman with a history of weight problems some cellulite is inevitable. I’m more concerned with the redistributing the pockets of fat on my thighs. They have gotten smaller but they are still out of sync with the rest of me. I really don’t want to get lipo on them or lower body lift but I have a feeling that as I keep losing weight it will be a given should I want to compete one day.

I’m ready to resume working out tommorow. My throat feels completly healed and my left ear is no longer hurting. The left side of my face is a little tender but it’s no longer throbbing like it was during the week. I have decided to resume the two week plan that I have in my exercise routine section. I am still using the Insulin Resistance diet plan with the exception of the giant cookie I ate yesterday. I only ate half and gave the rest to some hungry pigeons. :) I feel positive and refreshed. I was having a little anxiety earlier but I talked myself out of it.

Ate two detour 30 grams bars. One for breakfast, one for lunch. Turkey Chilli with a sprinkle of cheddar and 5 low salt crackers for dinner. Went back to the doctor and he said I have fluid in my left ear still. Put me back on antibiotics again. Otherwise I feel great! Down another 1/2 pound maybe even more because I weighed myself at 3:30 in the afternoon. I will get back to the gym next week. I must let myself heal up properly or I am gonna stay sick. I’m taking all my vitamins and drinking water like it’s going out of style.

7:30 PM 6 mini breadsticks with 2 pats of butter,

8:15 PM light english muffin, smart balance, 1 slice of 2% sharp cheddar slices from kraft

I am having strong salt cravings. PMS again. I would love to have a dark chocolate bar with oven roasted almonds. Cool ranch chips are also on my mind. Sushi too! Sigh… I haven’t gone over the edge with my eating tonight but I am at risk. I am not physically hungry but it’s more like a mental hunger.

Just like starting over

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Well not really…I am actually starting at a better position then I was originally. My weight is down to 180.5 as of this morning. I am back on regular food as of today.

10:00 AM Kashi cookie with natural peanut butter and fat free milk
12:45 PM 1 serving low fatTurkey chilli with cheddar cheese

I feel slightly queasy today, only slight pressure in my left ear and in my left jaw from where the tooth was extracted. There is the mildest of discomfort when I swallow on the left side of my throat from where the tonsils where removed. My doctor told me to wait two weeks to exercise but I am starting today. If I have even the slightest feeling of discomfort I will stop and heed his advice. My plan is to use the 6 pound body bar and do the Escape Your Shape workout(toning and cardio). I can’t even think about walking back into the gym yet. I feel too weak for that.
I promised to make a video blog today and I will do that later.

So this is me setting forth on a 13 week journey to transform myself once again. I’ll give it my best shot and I’ll keep my expectations realistic. I know that my body likes to hang on to weight so I am going to be eating using the Insulin Resistance Diet for the next 13 weeks. I hope to get down to 170 by New Years. That’s as much of a goal that I am willing to set for myself at this point. If I meet that goal early then I will make another one. I’m gonna take this step by step, meal by meal, workout by workout. This is my commitment to myself.

2:30 PM 2 small breadsticks Sesame, diet manhattan special

3:45 PM Tried to exercise but got lightheaded and my left side of my jaw started throbbing right away. Decided to change to a brief slow walk before dinner and I will increase my water intake.

6:00 PM I didn’t exercise. I don’t want to push my luck. Had half a 30 gram white chocolate detour bar. Drinking plenty of water.

7:30 PM soy milk and protein powder.

11:00 PM one chicken in a biscuit cracker. MUCHO EAR PAIN!

Starting back tommorow 13 week transformation

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

I feel well enough to start working out again with the body bar tommorow. I’m gonna do a body bar workout for a few weeks and see how it goes. I’m also gonna start a 13 week transformation plan complete with video blogs starting tommorow. So far today I ate yogurt and protein powder. I have a horrible metal taste in my mouth from the wisdom tooth extraction. I’m trying to wean myself off the pain medications. Not much else happening. I

1:00 AM Woke up hungry! Choctal Guyana Chocolate ice cream 1 cup

Day 6 post op Tonsilectomy

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Whoohooo! Down to 180.5! This is very exciting for me after being stuck in the 180’s for so long. I’m nearing my goal of being in the 170’s by my birthday.

I am having alot of discomfort in my ears and throat since yesterday. It pretty much woke me out of my sleep. It should stop by Sunday.

I am so excited about getting back to the gym. I’m going to ask my doctor for permission to resume on Monday.

10:30 AM Stoufers Mac and cheese small pkg

11:00 AM 1/2 cup applesauce with medication

My appetite is very poor today. I wasn’t even enjoying the mac and cheese which was always a favorite. I think it’s because I know it’s gonna hurt when I swallow that i’m just all turned off to eating and drinking altogther. BAH! I’m going back to bed until my doctors appointment.

3:00 PM 1/2 dark choclate bar(chewed well)

4:30 PM 1/4 applesauce with pills

6:00 PM 1 cup Mashed potatoes with gravy. 2 tbs of green pea soup with two croutons, 2 tsp of carrot cake with whipped cream, coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 and 2 splenda. I’m gonna do a soy shake tonight around 9 pm.

9:30 PM  1/2 applesauce with pills, didn’t feel like having a shake. I think it’s because of two new medications I am taking for my ear pain called Sudafed and lortadine. The doctor said my throat is healing well but he found fluid in my left ear enough to distend my eardrum. No wonder I was having such horrible pain! It’s coming along well now. I was able to sing in my soprano voice tonight for a bit. Had to stop because the throat was sore.
