Grrrr!!!

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

So, today I’m feeling a bit discouraged… and I think anyone on here can relate!! I’ve realized that noone close to me understands why I want to take on such a fit lifestyle. It seems America has turned eating terribly into the norm, and eating clean is considered "disordered eating"!! A friend of mine asked me why I wanted to eat egg whites and oatmeal and veggies… and then proceeded to tell me I have a poor body image and should consider "getting some help" for it… I wanted to be like, WHAT?! Eating clean isn’t about trying to be skinny like a model! It’s about putting the right nutrients into your body so that you can be as healthy as possible!!! It’s about eating 6 times a day - just smaller meals - how is that starving yourself?! Being a Fitness/Wellness major, this has got to be the most frustrating thing…. to hear your friends tell you that eating "normal" is eating pizza, and burgers, and french fries, and enjoying your food until you’re full…. and eating "clean" is bad, and obsessive, and going too far to look good…. AHHH!!! What has America done?!

So, needless to say…. I’m frustrated. I haven’t even gotten started on a perfectly clean diet, and I’m already annoyed! But it isn’t about them, it’s about me. I just wish at least one or two of my friends understood so that I could get some support…. Not to mention my parents! I mean, Mom’s great - she obviously wants to support everything I do - but she just kind of laughs at me! And my stepdad is another story…. he’s a big man - and about two years away from a heart attack…. and all he does is try to make me eat bad with him. And yanno what? Sometimes I give in….. I can’t lie, I enjoy the bad foods! Who doesn’t?! But I just wish they could understand the importance of eating well and being active. Yikes. Seeing my stepdad eat and eat and eat and laugh about it, fully knowing how close he is to a severe heart attack breaks my heart :( And he thinks what I’m doing is silly?

 Anyway… I’m just frustrated!!!

I must be going, I need to continue to guzzle my gallon of water and hopefully make it to the gym today… To all of you on here sweating your butts off so that you can be healthy and fit and live long - You are all amazing, and an inspiration… I’m just glad I’ve found BodySpace, seeing as it’s the only support I have right now!!! :)

 Until next time…

And so it begins…

Hey everyone! I thought I’d post a lil somethin’ somethin’ just to say hi and introduce myself a little bit :o ) My name is Amanda! I’m 23 years old and a full-time college student, as well as a part-time nanny for 10 year old identical twin girls - YIKES, I know! I’m majoring in Sports, Fitness & Leisure Studies with a concentration on Fitness/Wellness, and I’m HOPING to make it to grad school some day, but we will see!! My biggest dream is to compete in a fitness competition - and I came SO close to stepping on stage this past spring, however school is my number one priority, so competing took a backseat to my studying. Big bummer, yes - but I just KNOW I’ll get there some day!! I have a long way to go, but I am sure with the help of Cathy Savage and the Savage Girls, I will get there having as much fun as possible along the way! In January 2007, I will be attending Camp Savage - a weekend long "camp" focusing on all of the aspects of fitness and figure contest prep… I attended the camp last winter, and it was a BLAST. I met SO many women with the same dream as me, and all of them were so excited to get started on the journey… it was just an awesome experience. SO, my journey will begin as soon as I can attack my budget and try to find some money to devote to the proper nutrition I will need in order to transform my physique… I am a broke college student after all, and with that usually comes many unhealthy meals and snacks! I have chosen to give up drinking for the most part, aside from an occasional glass of wine for special occasions - a hard thing to do when the majority of your friends are party animals! I am hoping I will find some support through BodySpace and other forums, where I can always find people who understand and share my dream…

Here’s to everyone out there devoting their life to fitness and looking amazing while doing it!! You are all an amazing inspiration!! :o )

Until next time…. Amanda <3
