PROMISE YOURSELF

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel they are unique and special people.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

Coulda, Shoula, Woulda…It’s worth a read if you get a chance….

Friday, August 21st, 2009

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine. I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible. How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn’t suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word "refrigeration" mean nothing to you? How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘Jeopardy’ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, "How about going to lunch in a half hour?" She would gas up and stammer, "I can’t. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain." And my personal favorite: "It’s Monday." She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together. Because we cram so much into their lives, we tend to schedule our headaches..

We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect! We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college. Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of "I’m going to," "I plan on," and "Someday, when things are settled down a bit."

When anyone calls my ’seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Roller blades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord. My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy. Now..go on and have a nice day.

Do something you WANT to……not something on your SHOULD DO list.

If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting? Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask "How are you?" Do you hear the reply? When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, "We’ll do it tomorrow." And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say "Hi"? When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift….Thrown away…. Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

"Life may not be the party we hoped for… but while we are here we might as well dance!"

Keto diet…day 5

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

I have been on keto for 5 days now, it feels weird eating chicken thighs and pork roast, love it though…And keeping it as clean as possible…I have not used ketosticks, but I am sure I am on full ketosis because of all the ’signs’.

Weight was 54.4kg on 14/08, this morning(18/08) 52.7kg..My main goal is to loose 7 1/2 cm around the hips, so I will be taking weekly measurements, not much focus will be placed on the scale.

Today’s meal plan:

Meal 1: tuna salad with egg, 1tbsp mayo and whey protein shake (150ml)

Meal 2: 3oz chicken breast, 1c red cabbage, 1tbsp flaxseed oil

Meal 3 : 3oz pork roast, 1c red cabbage, 1tbsp flaxseed oil

Meal 4: 4 eggs (2 yolk), 1tsp flaxseed oil

Meal 5: Chicken thigh (no skin, no bone)1c red cabbage, 1tbsp flaxseed oil and 150ml whey protein

I have no idea how to calculate the whey protein in term of calories -Nonetheless, it has 23g Protein, 2.4g carbs and 2.3g fat. Not sure if I can lower the carbs any further coz they are from my veggies (3cups of red cabbage and salad greens..

A Full-Body Kettlebell Training Program… Strength, Power and Endurance

Friday, July 24th, 2009

I had a blast working out with kettlebells yesterday evening… I focused on my form throughout, worked hard and pushed through the pain. I am so looking forward to the next explosive, brutal but fun workout session..

 What are Kettlebells?
Kettlebells (Cast-Iron Balls) are iron equipment resembling much like a cannonball with a handle. Imagine a bowling ball but with a suitcase handle attached to it for grip.
Originally invented by Russians for strength and flexibility, now kettlebells are used for a wide range of strength activities, from muscle toning to losing weight. Pavel Tsatsouline is often credited for bringing the brutal Kettlebell training to US and rest of the world from Russia.

Kettlebells for Killer Cardio and Powerful Muscle Toning
There is no better way to burn fat than with a few high rep sets of kettlebell swings, snatches, and clean and jerks. These killer ballistic exercises work your body as one unit and require a great deal of hard work. The harder you work the more calories you burn. This is why sprinters are ripped to shreds and marathon runners have a skinny-fat look.
As effective as sprinting is, ballistic kettlebell exercises such as snatches make sprinting look like a walk in the park. High rep snatches work more muscle groups than sprinting and will build strength in the lower back, shoulders, and hip flexors.
Unlike many other forms of cardio, kettlebell training is “brutal fun” and a hard cardio kettlebell workout gives you a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
 this is what we did:

  1. Alternating Floor Press - 3 sets x 15 reps

  2. Front Squat - 3 sets x 15 reps

  3. Kettlebell Windmill - 3 sets x 15 reps

  4. Single Arm Jerk - 3 sets x 15 reps

  5. Kettlebell Swing - 3 sets x 15 reps

  6. Single Arm Rows - 3 sets x 15 reps

  7. Power Cleans - 3 sets x 15 reps
