I got a handwritten letter from our senator, Rusty Glover, thanking me for promoting health and fitness. I am impressed that he cared so much. I do not personally know Rusty, and I am glad he cares about the health of the public.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BODYBUILDING BY MIKE HORN IFBB PRO nesta, afaa, ace, pace, ifpa certified Nutritionist/Trainer Let me start by saying bodybuilding is the most mis-understood sport in the world. Anytime a reporter does a story on bodybuilding or anytime a documentary is done on bodybuilding they always find the biggest idiot. However, this is if you can even find a story on bodybuilding. We promote the NPC Steel World Bodybuilding & Fitness Championships every year and this year had over 1000 in attendance. The local newspaper and TV stations covered a Fishing tournament in Mississippi instead that had only 50 people show up. We had competitors come from all over the country filling up the local hotels and bringing in money to Mobile. Our show got overlooked even though we contacted all local news outlets well in advance. Now if we said we have a bunch of steroid freaks competing on stage come check it out, I’m sure they would have come. The truth is, if it was as easy as taking some steroids to look like a champion bodybuilder how come Bary Bonds has a belly? How come the tour De France riders that got got caught using steroids are as big as a pencil? There are a lot of athletes that caught taking steroids but none of them look like a bodybuilder. The fact is there is no drug you can take to get you a six pack and skin so tight it looks like saran wrap around muscle. Its all diet and weight training. Every world class athlete has to do our sport to be better at their sport. There is no exception! If you want to throw a better fast ball you have to lift weights. If you want to be a faster swimmer you have to lift weights. I got started in bodybuilding after years of Karate, powerlifting, military, and street fighting. It actually helped me focus my life on being positive and staying out of trouble. It is the hardest thing you can possibly imagine. Not Physically but mentally. There is nothing you can possibly think of that is harder than eating the same food everyday all day for at least 12 weeks at a time without cheating one single time. Bodybuilders are th e most mentally strong people on the face of the earth. You can go to any bodybuilding competition and look on stage and see who cheated on their diet and who did not. If your holding fat you cheated or didn’t diet long enough. You can’t defy the law of physiques. Burn more calories than you eat and you get lean! Its real simple to do what we do - just eat egg whites and oatmeal for meal one - then eat chicken and rice for the next 5 meals. Do this everyday for 12 weeks and if miss one meal or eat anything else you lose. This is why I’m the first and only Pro in the state of Alabama. I can do what no one else has yet to be able to do. And its not because I’m special its because I am the only person with the discipline to stick to it. Now if you go to Florida there are pros who blow me away just because they have more discipline than me its that simple. I found out that food is more powerful than drug on the face of the earth. You can manipulate and transform any body with discipline. Doctors and our medical community are about 10 years behind bodybuilders on how to lose weight. Medical break throughs you are just now hearing about for weight loss are things bodybuilders were doing 10 years ago. There is no person on the face of this earth that can’t lose weight. There is no medical condition that can keep you from losing weight. There is no medication that puts weight on you. It is 100% the food you put in your mouth that determines weather you gain weight or lose weight. I don’t care if you have a thyroid problem it does not matter. Anyone can lose weight. That does not mean there are some conditions which make it difficult but the fact remains bodybuilders know how to lose fat better than anyone. Thats just the weight loss aspect of our sport. The weight training part is a whole other ball game. Bodybuilders are the most efficant athletes in the world when it comes to getting the most out of production for a muscle group. This means if you play golf and you need exercises to work core muscles I promise a bodyb uilder (a real one not a wanna be) will show you more about core strength than any therapist. We work from real on hands experience not a book that was taught by a pencil headed nurd that never touched a weight. Exercise is like a science that is always changing. As the human body adapts to exercise changes must be made. No two humans are the same this is why protocols in physical therapy are never as efficant as an experienced trainer when it comes to rehab. No matter if your in a rehab situation or looking to lose weight or looking to put on a little muscle you all doing the same thing - your bodybuilding. Thats right your building your body. You just don’t have to take it to the extreme like we do. If you think about it you have bodybuilders on one end of the spectrum and obesity on the other - which direction do you want to go?
